All players ruled out the match with Viktoria Plzen

This was always going to be a huge job for Ruben Amorim, who didn’t take long to warn fans of the ‘storm’ that was brewing at Manchester United.

Thanks to Darragh, Arsenal’s set-piece bombardment and Nuno Espirito Santo’s Nottingham Forest, Amorim’s foreboding came quickly.

There have been flashes of brilliance, but who knows how long it will be before an Amorim-led United discover their peak.

Things have certainly improved injury-wise for the Red Devils since the arrival of the new manager. With the busy festive season approaching, squad rotation is key and the ends of talent at Amorim’s disposal could be put to the test in the Czech Republic on Thursday.

Here is the last one unitedInjury concerns ahead of their trip to Viktoria Plzen.

Luke Shaw

Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro have returned to full form since Amorim took over and there have been further improvements on the fitness front ahead of Thursday. Europa League game

The manager offered a positive update Victor Lindelof last week, saying: “Victor is back in training but not available for tomorrow (against Nottingham Forest). Maybe next game he will be available.”

Lindelof has since returned to Man Utd training and could be available against Plzen. Jonny Evanswho has not featured since Amorim’s United bow at Portman Road, has also returned to the training ground.

However, United are without again Luke Shaw. The left-back had come off the bench for the first three games of Amorim’s reign but has since suffered “a little setback” which will see him miss the next few weeks.

Shaw made his first appearance of the season last month after missing the start of the 2024/25 campaign with a calf injury.

Bruno Fernandes

United have few injury concerns further up the pitch ahead of Thursday’s game and Amorim is expected to have a young midfielder Toby Collyer available for the first time.

Collyer had featured sporadically with Erik ten Hag before suffering an unspecified injury in early November. The 20-year-old is back in training.

Bruno Fernandes he was finally able to gain some respite in the middle of the week after he was retired at the end of the defeat to Forest due to fatigue. United’s talisman is not believed to be dealing with injury, but the time seems right to offer Fernandes a breather.

The Portugal international has started all but one of the Red Devils’ Premier League and Europa League games this season.
