The New York Yankees have had a rough week after watching superstar Juan Soto fly out of town to the New York Mets in a stunning 15-year, $765 million deal.
This has left Yankees fans with a huge black hole in the hearts of their staff and Yankees fans across the country.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman spoke about the process Wednesday and shut down one untrue rumor that has been circulating since the deal was completed.
Cashman said on MLB Network Radio that the Yankees never had a chance to match the Mets’ offer, noting “it was reported that we had a chance to match, that was not true.”
“It was reported that we had a chance to qualify, that was not true.”

Cashman said it was a “unique negotiation” and noted how the team was blindsided throughout the process because they were unaware of the other offers.
He said the Yankees were in “wait and see” mode over the last week as Soto mulled over his decision, but no one knew what the other teams were offering and had to do the best they could without knowing what they were up against. :
The Yankees reportedly offered 16 years for $760 million, while Mets owner Steve Cohen kept his word when he said he refused to move on Soto.
Replacing Soto is impossible, but the Yankees must move forward and decide who will replace him in the lineup next season.
It’s unfortunate that things turned out this way if you’re a Yankees fan, and who knows if the team would have matched the Mets’ offer if given the chance.
