Man Utd’s ‘unsellable’ players named ahead of major squad overhaul

A list of players deemed ‘unsellable’ by key Manchester United figures has thrown the futures of many first-team stars at Old Trafford into doubt.

Ruben Amorim became the first new coach appointed by the new INEOS regime when he replaced Erik ten Hag and the Portuguese manager is expected to make his mark on the squad in the coming transfer windows

Ten Hag had great support in the summer as the club brought in Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazzraoui and Manuel Ugarte, but United’s line-up change means new options will be lined up in January and later in the summer.

Sky Sport Germany they claim that more than half of the current squad are candidates to be moved in the next year or so, with only a handful of players considered vital to the development of the field.

Newcomers Mazraoui, De Ligt and Yoro make that list along with Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo and Andre Onana, but home striker Marcus Rashford is not named.

In recent days it has been reported that United are “open to the best offers” for the England international, who has been sidelined since the 2022/23 season, when he scored 30 goals in all competitions.

Rashford is one of the highest paid players united and, with INEOS poised to cut costs in a number of ways, his departure could free up space on the wage bill.

Other top stars such as Bruno Fernandes, Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount, Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho, Casemiro, Diogo Dalot and Antony are unnamed, but United will find it difficult to secure buyers for unwanted players in the January transfer window.

This process will not have any input from former athletic director Dan Ashworth, whose departure from the club after just five months it was confirmed earlier this week.
