The New York Yankees were heartbroken, losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series last season.
The Yankees suffered another heartbreak this offseason when free agent Juan Soto signed with the New York Mets.
Soto chose to sign with the Mets over the Yankees, even though the contract offers from both teams were close.
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale of Channel X, Yankees manager Aaron Boone made the announcement regarding Soto’s departure.
“It kind of hurts right now, but when you live a business and you live a sport, it’s a sport again,” Boone said.

Soto chose to join the Mets over the Yankees because he signed a $765 million contract over 15 years.
Boone said he was upset by Soto’s decision, but noted that sports sometimes go that way, and this is an opportunity for the Yankees to overcome it.
The Yankees went all out to bring Soto back, as the Yankees reportedly matched the Mets’ offer of $5 million.
Now that Soto is off the table, it will be interesting to see how aggressive the Yankees are throughout the rest of the offseason.
With plenty of other great talent available both in the free agent class and via trade, the Yankees have options if they want to update their roster before the 2025 season.
The Yankees will look to win their second consecutive American League title for the first time since 2011 and 2012.
