The Boston Red Sox missed the postseason for the third straight season in 2024, finishing with an 81-81 record.
With their third-place finish in the American League East, the Red Sox snapped their two-year streak of finishing last in one of baseball’s toughest divisions.
Looking ahead to the 2025 season, the Red Sox will likely need to make some moves this offseason if they want to contend for a division title.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora sent a clear message about the Red Sox in 2025.
I believe if we make the right moves, add the right pieces and have a good plan in spring training, we’ll be in the hunt,” Cora said on “X” via MLB Network.

The Red Sox have had some success in recent years, as evidenced by their four World Series titles since 2004.
With a young and talented roster, Cora believes the team can challenge for the AL East title in 2025 if they make the right moves this season.
In a division that includes the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles, the Red Sox will likely need to add some more talent if they want to contend.
The Red Sox were one of the teams in talks with top free agent Juan Soto, but they were unable to sign him as Soto signed with the New York Mets.
Now that Soto is off the table, the Red Sox must look elsewhere to add offensive weapons to their lineup.
The Red Sox will be a team to watch as the season progresses to see how aggressive they will be.
