Parsons Xtreme Golf (PXG) decided to make a splash in the game improvement space this year with their first official entry into the category: Black Ops Iron Line. Of course, a credible argument can be made that PXG has been in that space with the XP line of their Gen X offerings. Ask PXG, however, and they’ll tell you that the XP is an aggressive distance iron. the player. With Black Ops Iron, PXG has firmly planted their flag in the game improvement category.
What’s more, they’ve declared these new clubs “a breakthrough in game improvement,” promising forgiveness, distance, ball speed, and “a feel that can be even better than a fake.” With no shortage of bold performance claims, PXG deployed three custom-assembled groupsets Black Ops Handcuffs in the hands of the MyGolfSpy Forum testers. Did Black Ops live up to the hype? Read on.

aesthetic
of Black Ops Handcuffs it certainly looks the part of a game-enhancing iron with a larger profile head and thicker topline in line with the category. Still, testers found the club’s design attractive and confidence inspiring.
“The PXG Black Ops wallets offer a sleek, modern look with their matte finish, but the Black Ops on the back really stands out. Their design exudes a premium feel, making them visually appealing at the address. The clubs are a little thick on the first and only lines, so this may not appeal to every golfer, especially traditionalists. For the intended audience (Game Enhancement players), I believe PXG hits the spot here.” – USMCSniper
“The Black Ops irons and wedges from PXG absolutely hit the mark when it comes to aesthetics. These clubs are sharp and bold, fitting perfectly with PXG’s distinctive style….While the clubs are noticeably thicker in the approach, this is typical of Game Improvement irons and not a defect,” – Fallen Saber
Feedback during the course
On the course, testers reported distance gains coupled with noticeable forgiveness throughout Black Ops Iron Kit.
“The ball really flies in the face of these clubs. My personal best with a 5-iron used to be 188 yards. With the Black Ops 5I, I hit two shots over 190 yards.” – Fallen Saber
“The moment of impact felt smooth and responsive, giving crisp feedback without being harsh, even on off-center hits. This was particularly evident on easy misses, where the forgiveness of the clubface helped maintain respectable ball speeds and a stronger than expected distribution of shots.” – USMCSniper
“The numbers on this set of irons are fantastic!! Meats are crazy…instead of a toe kick going 35 yards right, it will only miss about 7 yards or so…. Long irons are long, short irons produce spin and are extremely workable. PXG pushed the boundaries of what a game-enhancing iron is supposed to do with Black Ops.” – 3Putt4Double
performance
After all, the true measure of an iron’s game improvement is, well, does it improve your game? The gains in distance and more forgiveness matter little if you’re not going to score better, after all. For our testers, we collect a variety Black Ops Handcuffs resulted in better golf.
“I’ve had two of the best rounds I’ve played in 10 years in the last two weeks. I attribute that to my faith with these irons!” – USMCSniper
“These clubs are incredible and will improve your game quickly….In just two months, I dropped my handicap by almost 2 points without changing anything else – no lessons, no new routine. I can say with confidence that the PXG Black Ops irons and wedges played a significant role in this improvement” – Fallen Saber
consents
PXG is not shy in promoting the quality of their fitting experience and overall customer service, stating that “PXG Portiments are an experience unlike any other” that will make you “walk higher to the top, no matter how you move it.”
PXG certainly backed up these statements with our Black Ops testers. Each of our testers was contacted by the fitter prior to their appointment and received a full fitting. Additionally, PXG sent each tester continuous updates after assembly until the club was delivered AND followed up weeks later to ensure the testers were satisfied with the fit and performance of the club. Our testers were impressed, to say the least.
“I was impressed by the ease of engagement with PXG, the flexibility and knowledge of the fitter and the iron performance during a session. He placed the order before I even got to my car and I received the order confirmation within seconds.” – USMCSniper
“Extremely professional place and highly recommended! I will be back and I want the exact same experience… I found my perfect one!” – 3Putt4Double
He doesn’t like it
A thicker, thicker club is pretty standard fare when it comes to the game improvement category. of PXG Black Ops line is no exception. More than one of our testers noted a thick top line as part of their first impressions, which became less of a concern after spending more time with the new sticks.
“The size of the sole and upper line was strange at first. This is a thick upper line. I was surprised because PXG usually rounds the tip more. According to the assembler, the Black Ops iron is purposely designed this way to cater to a game upgrade crowd. If that was the point, they met the mark. I prefer a GI iron that looks like the players distance iron. The change really started me down the wrong path mentally… but that’s why they play the game. Hit the damn things!!” – USMCSniper
CONCLUSION
With their new ones Black Ops Handcuffsour testers found that the PXG delivered on a number of promises in distance and forgiveness. If the benchmark for success in the game improvement category is improved golf, then our testers’ lower handicaps and scores stand as evidence of a high-quality entry into that space from PXG. The new one Black Ops Iron Line it is definitely a must have for medium and high handicap players.
