There is no chance of Storm Darragh disrupting Liverpool’s plans on Tuesday night when they face Girona in the Champions League.
The Reds enjoyed the weekend after the postponement of Saturday’s Merseyside derby as a result of the stormy conditions that ravaged the UK. While Arne Slot’s side will likely have to endure Goodison Park under the lights in the new year, they wouldn’t have been too upset about the recent respite.
Last time out, Liverpool dropped their first Premier League points since October 27 3-3 draw at Newcastle.
Slot may see Tuesday’s clash as an opportunity to rotate given the Reds’ strong position at the top of the league stage table. They are the only team to maintain a 100% record through five games and are all but assured of a place in the top eight.
Liverpool will face a Girona side who have struggled to replicate the heights of the 2023/24 season so far and are unlikely to progress beyond the league stage in their first Champions League adventure. Michel’s team are currently 30th in the table with just three points.
His eyes are on Real Madrid, against whom he lost at the weekend, in last place in the play-off.

A Liverpool The team on the back of a grueling derby in windy conditions would have been a tough enough test for Girona, let alone a test they didn’t have to play at the weekend.
The Reds showed vulnerabilities during their recent draw in Newcastle, but it is unlikely that Girona will exploit them on Tuesday. The Spanish do not have the luck of athletes or physical specimens in the middle of the park to chain the visitors.
This should be a regular win for the away side and Slot will no doubt be up for the job early to get some rest ahead of Saturday’s clash with Fulham.
