Girona vs Liverpool: Preview, predictions and lineups

There is no chance of Storm Darragh disrupting Liverpool’s plans on Tuesday night when they face Girona in the Champions League.

The Reds enjoyed the weekend after the postponement of Saturday’s Merseyside derby as a result of the stormy conditions that ravaged the UK. While Arne Slot’s side will likely have to endure Goodison Park under the lights in the new year, they wouldn’t have been too upset about the recent respite.

Last time out, Liverpool dropped their first Premier League points since October 27 3-3 draw at Newcastle.

Slot may see Tuesday’s clash as an opportunity to rotate given the Reds’ strong position at the top of the league stage table. They are the only team to maintain a 100% record through five games and are all but assured of a place in the top eight.

Liverpool will face a Girona side who have struggled to replicate the heights of the 2023/24 season so far and are unlikely to progress beyond the league stage in their first Champions League adventure. Michel’s team are currently 30th in the table with just three points.

His eyes are on Real Madrid, against whom he lost at the weekend, in last place in the play-off.

here it is 90 minutes guide to Tuesday’s Champions League match.

Bryan Gil

Many former Premier League stars will line up for the hosts on Tuesday. Bryan Gil, Donny van de Beek and Oriol Romeu it all started against Real Madrid on the weekend and is likely to be involved from the start.

Arnaut Danjuma, another Everton striker, has impressed with the flurries on loan for Villarreal, but Yaser Asprilla is starting to play a more prominent role for Michel’s side.

The hosts are likely to be without midfielder Yangel Herrera again with a foot injury, while Viktor Tsygankov is struggling with an ankle problem. Jhon Solis is another doubt.

Girona vs Liverpool predicted line-up (4-2-3-1): Gazzaniga; Martínez, López, Krejci, Gutiérrez; Martin, Romeo; Asprilla, Van de Beek, Danjuma; Miovski.

Alexis McAllister

The Reds will certainly benefit from the weekend break and it won’t be long until we see Alisson, Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa back in action. Slot said ahead of the Merseyside derby that all three are “close” to making their respective returns.

Liverpool will be without Ibrahima Konate, Conor Bradley and Kostas Tsimikas for a while longer.

Alexis Mac Allister serves a one-match ban on Tuesday night meaning Dominik Szoboszlai is likely to return to the side after dropping to the bench last Wednesday against Newcastle.

Liverpool predicted the line-up against Girona (4-2-3-1): Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Jones; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Diaz

A Liverpool The team on the back of a grueling derby in windy conditions would have been a tough enough test for Girona, let alone a test they didn’t have to play at the weekend.

The Reds showed vulnerabilities during their recent draw in Newcastle, but it is unlikely that Girona will exploit them on Tuesday. The Spanish do not have the luck of athletes or physical specimens in the middle of the park to chain the visitors.

This should be a regular win for the away side and Slot will no doubt be up for the job early to get some rest ahead of Saturday’s clash with Fulham.

Prediction: Girona 1-4 Liverpool
