Liverpool have received positive and negative news ahead of their Champions League clash against Girona.
The Reds are currently top of the Champions League standings after winning all five games this season.
They are the only team in the competition with a 100% record and leading teams such as Inter Milan and Barcelona in the Champions League.
Arne Slot’s side will face Girona de la Liga, who are currently ninth in the league, but could be without summer signing Federico Chiesa.
The Italian striker has struggled with his fitness this season and not having a proper pre-season is a big reason.
The ex-Juventus man had an impressive season in Serie A and this piqued the interest of Liverpool, who eventually signed the Italian in a bargain.
However, his form problems do not disappear with the 27-year-old now doubtful to be part of the squad against Girona due to illness, as the journalist has confirmed. James Pearce.
Athletic’s Pearce provided an update on the Liverpool striker:
“No Federico Chiesa at #LFC training today due to illness”

Federico Chiesa has been unable to get his Liverpool career going so far
It’s a huge blow for Slot and Chiesa, who featured in Liverpool’s Under-21 International Cup last week and also scored a goal for the Reds.
His status for the away game against Girona remains uncertain at the moment, but Diogo Jota is back in training after picking up a rib injury in the 2-1 win against Chelsea.
With Darwin Núñez struggling to find his goalscoring form, Slot will be delighted to welcome Jota into the squad in the hope that the Portuguese forward can share the goalscoring burden with Mohamed Salah.
Meanwhile, Alexis MacAllister has opened the door to move to the League in the future.
