Jamie Carragher has some advice for Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has been linked with a move away from Anfield.

The right-back has been in fine form for the Reds this season and has helped them to the top of the Premier League and Champions League.

He is one of the first names on the Liverpool team sheet and over the years has been gaining importance for the Merseyside club.

Under former manager Jurgen Klopp, Alexander-Arnold contributed to the club’s Premier League and Champions League success.

Following Gareth Southgate’s departure from England, the right-back has been a regular starter for the Three Lions, proving his importance to both his country and club.

Jamie Carragher believes the Liverpool star should be fondly remembered by fans even if he leaves the club as a free agent.

The former Liverpool icon believes a move away from Anfield should not affect Alexander-Arnold’s legacy at the club.

“Trent should be loved no matter what,” Carragher said in a Telegraph Questions and Answers.

“But he will be respected more than loved if he leaves this summer. Local players are treated differently than foreign stars. It is what it is.

“Put it that way, I’m not sure you’re going to get a banner in the Kop saying, ‘Give Trent the dough he wants’ any time soon. With the local lads, it’s always more like, ‘You’re playing for Liverpool, so what? do you want?”

“Trent will get a lot of criticism if he goes on a free because he is valued at around £90m, but there will be more acceptance if Salah and Van Dijk go with a Bosman, even though one costs £40m and the other £75m .Trent didn’t cost a transfer, so he would leave for the same price.

“If I could offer my advice to Trent it would be to sign a deal and get a realistic buyout clause so that the option is there if the possibility of a move comes up again. That way, if Real still he likes it, Liverpool could gain a few quid and Trent will always be remembered as Liverpool’s best right-back.”

Will Trent Alexander-Arnold leave Liverpool for Real Madrid?

The champions of Spain have been linked with a move for the Liverpool man. They want to unite him with his best friend Jude Bellingham at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The fact that he could leave the club as a free agent would be a huge blow for the Reds.

They could easily have received a world record signing for a right-back if they had Alexander-Arnold tied down to a long-term contract.

Arne Slot’s side would still give everything to keep the player at the club, but as more time passes, he is getting closer to a move away from Liverpool and the club’s position is getting weaker and weaker.

At the beginning of January, Alexander-Arnold will be able to start talks with other clubs about a summer move.

Together with the right side, the The Reds could also lose goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher at the end of the season.
