West Ham United have been linked with a move to sign ex Manager of the Port Sergio Conceicao a replaces Julen Lopetegui.
However, former Portugal midfielder turned pundit Maniche has disputed the stories and admits he cannot see Conceicao taking such a job.
“I think he’ll probably move on” – GREAT statement made by the PL legend
It has been a nightmare start to the season for West Ham under Lopetegui, who looked like a good appointment when he was brought in to replace David Moyes in the summer.
However, things have not gone well for the Spanish tactician and one imagines that he has little left to turn things around at the London Stadium.
Still, West Ham could have an eye on some big names like Conceicao to replace Lopetegui, but that doesn’t mean it’s a realistic target.
Maniche removes West Ham’s links to the dream manager’s goal
Maniche certainly doesn’t think this is one the Hammers should get too excited about.
talking with CNNsaid: “I find it hard to believe that Sergio Conceicao would accept a club like 14th-placed West Ham or Nantes.
“(What he chooses next) depends a lot on what Sergio Conceicao wants for his career. To keep winning titles, as he did at FC Porto, or to save relegating teams?
“If he thinks he’s been out for a long time and can no longer do without training, that will also affect his decision,” added Maniche, who had a brief spell at Chelsea under Jose Mourinho in 2006.
“(But) what is certain is that, after what he won at FC Porto, I guess he is thinking about a team that fights for titles and not teams that fight for relegation.”
West Ham fans will no doubt be hoping they can bring in someone soon who can make a positive impact on this underperforming squad, with Lopetegui looking increasingly like he was the wrong choice for the job.
