The Boston Red Sox finished the 2024 season with an 81-81 record, which placed them in third place in the American League East.
After missing a third straight season, the Red Sox could be one of the more aggressive teams this offseason as they try to keep up with the New York Yankees.
The Red Sox are looking at the top free agent in this year’s class in Juan Soto, which would give them a big advantage over the Yankees, as Soto was one of New York’s best players in 2024.
While everyone waits for Soto’s decision, the Red Sox made another move in the meantime.
“Red Sox, LHP Aroldis Chapman agree to 1-year contract, according to multiple reports, including MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand,” wrote MLB at X .

The Chapman signing has sparked a backlash from Red Sox fans on social media.
A big move for the Red Sox Chapman experience will certainly strengthen their bullpen.

Chapman is 36 years old and has played 15 MLB seasons with six organizations.
After debuting with the Cincinnati Reds in 2010 and playing for them for six years, Chapman went to the Yankees for seven years and then bounced around from team to team the last two years.
In 2024, Chapman appeared in 68 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates and went 5-5 with 14 saves, a 3.79 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 61.2 innings.
Even though Chapman is maturing there, his 2024 stats prove he still has what it takes to be effective.
The Red Sox are getting a nice veteran for 2025, and now they will continue to try to sell Soto after he joins the team.
