USGA
Monday was a big morning for gear nerds like the two Callaway AND PingNew drivers for 2025 and fairway woods were among a host of new clubs to appear on the USGA conform list.
All clubs entered into play in any form of competition governed by USGA and R&A rules must be reviewed and approved by the bodies, and once they are, they are placed on the conforming list allowing everyone from weekend hackers to professionals to to use. those. This process usually occurs before the clubs go retail.
With several events taking place this week around the world, including World Challenge of Heroes in the Bahamas, gear watchers will be keeping a close eye on who is already moving into 2025 gear. For example, in the first round of his Hero win last year, Scottie Scheffler was already playing games TaylorMade’s then-unreleased Qi10 LS driver.
While Callaway and Ping have yet to officially comment on their 2025 offerings, here’s what we know about Callaway Elyte AND Ping G440 the drivers.
Callaway Elyte
From the conformation list, we can gather that there will be four driver heads in Callaway’s 2025 Elyte line — the spelling likely being a nod to Callaway founder Ely Callaway Jr. – Elyte, Elyte X, Elyte Max Fast and Elyte Triple Diamond. Only Triple Diamond and Max Fast appear as left-hand options at the moment, but that is likely to change.
Interestingly, the company is bringing back a “Core” model without any additions to the Elyte name; every 2024 model had “Max” or “Triple Diamond” added to its designation. There is also no Triple Diamond Max option that was added to the Paradym Ai Smoke line in May as those clubs saw success on Tour for players looking for both low spin and high forgiveness.
In terms of adjustability, every driver has an adjustable hose. The flagship Elyte features a removable rear weight with three settings (pull, neutral, fade), while the Elyte X and Elyte Max Fast only have two ports (equalize and neutral). The Triple Diamond features adjustable front and rear weight ports, which are likely to be activated under launch and spin conditions.
Additionally, Elyte, Elyte X and Elyte Triple Diamond also appeared on the conforming list. Those clubs featured an interesting “Tungsten Speed Wave” branding on the sole near the face of the club.
Ping G440
After successful startup release with three G430 modelsPing is once again releasing three different heads for the G440 line with the G440 MAX, G440 SFT and G440 LST.
In previous years, Ping’s “MAX” products have been geared towards accommodating the widest range of players, and in 2024, they offered an additional “MAX” head with the release of the G430 MAX 10K. While it remains to be seen if this year’s MAX product has similar Moment of Inertia characteristics, all three heads have a new “CarbonFly” branding.
All three heads are now listed in the left-hand options and also retain the same adjustment options as their predecessors. Both the MAX and LST heads have an adjustable rear weight that can be set to three settings: pull, neutral and fade. The SFT header contains ports labeled “Draw” and “Draw+” only.
Ping and Callaway’s releases aren’t the only 2025 clubs out there conforming list. In October, Srixon’s ZXi and Cobra’s DS-Adapt lines of drivers both appeared on the list.
