Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has expressed his appreciation for the work interim predecessor Ruud van Nistelrooy has done with Amad Diallo, who has been one of the stars of his new team so far.
Amorim has led to new formation 3-4-3 at United since his appointment last month and oversaw their first Premier League victory on Sunday, a strike 4-0 demolition of Everton.
The full-back call-up has seen Amad earn a well-deserved starting spot, although he was previously known as a striker. Against Everton, he came away with two assists, as well as indirectly creating another with high pressure, and it was statistically the best player on the pitch.
The 22-year-old Ivorian, who is now beginning to fulfill the potential United scouts saw ahead of a £37m move from Atalanta in 2020, has scored or assisted six times in his last four beginnings
“He was really good again,” Amorim reflected after the full day on Sunday, keen to credit Van Nistelrooy for the player’s recent burst of form.
“He’s in a great moment, but that moment started with Ruud. I’ve just taken advantage of Ruud’s work with Amad. He’s been really good defensively and really good attacking, so he’s got to keep playing like that.
“You could feel it at the end of the game, he was very tired, so we have to manage that as well, to increase his physical capacity.”
Amad had started the season in United’s line-up with Erik ten Hag, particularly impressive in the Community Shield against Manchester Citybut he had fallen to the periphery when the Dutchman was sacked at the start of November. He also struggled for chances last campaign, even long after recovering from a pre-season injury.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer handed his to Amad united made his debut in February 2021. But after starting two Premier League games in May of that year, the player did not start another in the competition for three years until May 2024, during which time he also had spells loaned to Rangers and Championship side Sunderland. .
