IPL 2025: “I think we’ve done it…”


Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya shared his satisfaction with the team’s strategy during the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, saying they have found the “right mix” of players. He also highlighted the franchise’s approach of combining experienced players with fresh talent to have a balanced squad for the upcoming IPL 2025.

Hardik Pandya acknowledged both the players who were integral to Mumbai Indians but were not retained, as well as the new faces joining the squad ahead of the next season. Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, MI had retained Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma.

And then the auction got established faces like five-time IPL champions Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar and young, talented players like Will Jacks, Robin Minz and Ryan David Rickelton. Allah Ghazanfar, Mitchell Santner, Naman Dhir, Lizaad Williams and Reece Topley were also snapped up by the Mumbai franchise during the two-day event in Jeddah last month.

Reflecting on the IPL 2025 auction, Hardik Pandya compared the experience to a rollercoaster ride, describing the event as unpredictable and emotionally charged. The Indian further emphasized the importance of remaining vocal during the all-round auction. He also announced that he is in regular contact with the coaching staff regarding the players he wants.

In a video released by MI on X, Hardik Pandya said: “I have also been in touch with the table, exactly who we are going for and I think we have come out pretty well from the auction and the way the team looks. We have got the right mix of experienced players like Boulty coming back. ; and the young guns around, like Will Jacks and Rickelton. So I think we’ve covered all the bases.”

The Mumbai Indians captain also shared a message for the young talent to join the franchise ahead of the next season. Pandya urged all the young players to work hard and said that the franchise offers the best opportunities to help them develop as the best cricketers, recalling his experience when he was scouted by the franchise and the rest is history.

Hardik further remarked, “My message to all the young guns joining Mumbai Indians this year is that if you’re here, you’ve got that spark, you’ve got the talent that the scouts see. They found me, they found Yasprit, they found Krunal, they found Tilak. All of them played for the country in the end.”

The MI captain signed off saying, “All you have to do is show up, train and work hard and the best part is that Mumbai Indians have the opportunities to make them flourish. There are new faces coming from new franchises. As Mumbai Indians, we will make sure they feel at home and belong here.”
