That was until Daniel Muñoz popped up and scored an equalizer in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time.

to say Newcastle a deserved win would be a massive stretch. After all, the Magpies managed just one shot on target all game, compared to 16 attempts Crystal Palace. The xG betting was also heavily skewed in favor of Palace, 1.76 to 0.04.

Still, there was immense frustration among players and supporters in the final tie, denying Newcastle a place in the top seven and seeing them stuck in 11th place.

Interestingly, Newcastle sporting director Mitchell was in attendance at Selhurst Park and decided to pay a visit to his team’s full-time dressing room.

However, according to the chronicleMitchell wasn’t there to utter harsh words or send a message to manager Eddie Howe.

Instead, the former Monaco boss offered his sympathy to the Newcastle players, who will have felt completely deflated after conceding a late goal.

“After the game, Newcastle sporting director Paul Mitchell and head of performance James Bunce moved from the executive seats to the dressing room area,” the Chronicle report said. “However, this was a case of Newcastle rallying at the back with Mitchell believed to be sympathetic to the team after almost holding on for three points.”

Newcastle will be looking to bounce back from their recent setbacks, including a 2-0 defeat at home to West Ham United on Monday, when they host Premier League leaders Liverpool on Wednesday.
