Floyd Schofield has posted an email from his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, to prove that his fight with WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson is still on for February 22.
In a post on X, Schofield compared himself to a cub Muhammad Aliand points out that he was 22 when he defeated Sonny Liston in 1964. However, Schofield leaves out that Ali was a 1960 Olympic gold medalist and had no trouble defeating ham and eggs like he did.
Ali dominated his competition before fighting an aging Liston, who looked much older than his chronological age of 32. In contrast, Schofield went toe-to-toe with non-contender Rene Tellez Giron, dropping him and plenty ate shots in their battle on November 2.
Schofield’s Defiance
In the email, De La Hoya told Schofield Sr. said he believes in his son, Kid Austin, but he wants to keep building him so he can win a world title. He doesn’t want Schofield to take the fight to Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) and risk getting beaten because of his lack of experience.
At the end of the email, De La Hoya said, “If you tell me, ‘Make it happen,’ then I will.”
Schofield then said, “We accept the challenge.”
So, unless De La Hoya refuses to make the Shakur-Schofield fight, it looks like it could happen next on February 22nd.
Earlier tonight, De La Hoya hinted on his Clap Back Thursday post that the fight between Shakur would not happen. He berated Shakur’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, for choosing his 22-year-old prospect, Schofield, over other top contenders, Frank Martin or Raymond Muratalla.
Interestingly, De La Hoya didn’t mention Edwin De Los Santos, a fighter who gave Shakur BIG problems last November, forcing him to run for 12 rounds and land more meaningful punches.
De Los Santos exposed Shakur, made him look scared and showed that he is just a runner at lightweight who will not stand his ground unless his opponents are weak and slow.

Muhammad Ali was 22 years old when he defeated Sonny Liston in their 1964 world heavyweight championship boxing match. This information is consistent with historical records, as Ali won the title by defeating Liston on February 25, 1964, when he was indeed 22 years old. This victory…
