Pakistan, Bangladesh brutally punished by BCC for slow overs, WTC loses points

Pakistan and Bangladesh took another shot at reaching the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) as they both claimed crucial WTC points due to low paces. They were found guilty of slow overcharging during the recently concluded first Test of the ongoing two-match series.

Both teams played against each other in Rawalpindi last week. The match ended on Sunday (August 25) with Bangladesh registering their historic first Test win over Pakistan.

However, their joy was somewhat soured, but their woes were compounded when the hosts were found guilty of failing to fill their quotas at the allotted time.

In a press release, the ICC confirmed that Pakistan were over six behind in the Test and have now lost six WTC points. On the other hand, Bangla Tigers were found to be more than three short and they have three WTC points.

The hosts were also fined 30% of the price of the match, and the guests 15%. The captains of both teams accepted the proposed sanctions after pleading guilty to the violations. As a result, there was no need for formal hearings.

Currently, Pakistan is ranked eighth in the WTC rankings, while Bangladesh has fallen one place to seventh after the sanctions. India currently tops the table followed by WTC champions Australia.

Bangladesh’s historic win over Pakistan:

Bangla Tigers crushed Pakistan by 10 wickets to record their first Test win over them.

The visitors came up with a stunning bowling display on the final day to turn the game around before winning. The tourists bowled out the hosts by just 146 runs on the final day after starting at 23 for 1.

Set a target of 30 runs, the visitors managed just over 6 runs without losing a single wicket. At the beginning of the game, Shan Massoud-the leading side declared their first innings at 448/6 with Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakil in ton. In reply, Bangladesh scored 565 runs thanks to former captain Mushfiqur Rahim’s brilliant knock of 191 runs.
