Rashid Khan narrowly avoids a career-threatening clash with Rahmanullah Gurbaz

Star Afghanistan National Cricket Team spinner Rashid Khan avoided a nasty collision with wicketkeeper-batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz that could have resulted in serious injury.

The incident between Rashid Khan and Rahmanullah Gurbaz took place on November 11 during the third ODI between Afghanistan and Bangladesh at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Rashid Khan recovers from a major injury

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first in the match. With the series tied at 1-1, both teams gave it their all on the field in the first innings.

One such instance occurred when star spinner Rashid Khan ran in to stop the ball. He slid to collect the ball and as he did so, keeper-batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz ran in behind.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz was driving fast and saw Rashid on the ground and tried his best not to collide. He jumped as he approached Rashid and made sure his knee didn’t hit the spinner’s head.

But as soon as Gurbaz jumped over Rashid, he took the cap from the spinner’s head. Thankfully, there was no collision and both players were completely safe after the incident.

The square is new. It is a fresh pitch and it looks drier and rougher – Hashemtullah Shahidi

Speaking at the time of the shooting, Hashemtullah Shahidi said they knew the pursuit would be difficult on the surface. He said:

“The pitch is new. It’s a fresh pitch and it looks drier and rougher. I think it will spin from the beginning. It’s a bit difficult to chase here. We’ll try to learn from what we did wrong in the last match. And try to do well today (spin off holiday) we when it played it was almost like a fourth inning track.

Meanwhile, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who served as Bangladesh captain in Najmul Hossain Shanto’s absence, was elated after winning the toss and said he was happy to lead the team in his 100th ODI. He said:

“We will bat first. The wicket looks good in the first innings. Good moment for me (to play in 100th ODI). Two changes. Shanto is injured, Taskin is not playing. Zakir and Nahid Rana are playing.”

Bangladesh National Cricket Team posted a good total of 244/8 on the board. Although this score looked impossible to achieve at one point, Mahmudullah (98) and Mehidi Hasan Miraz (66) amazing knock ensured that the Tigers posted a big total.
