In the future India’s tour of Australia 2024-25former Australian opener David Warner expressed his concerns Cricket Australia (CA)‘s quickly eliminated the last ball-tampering incident involving India. Australia A and India A.
The ball-tampering incident overshadows the tour match
The controversy took place on the final day of the Australia A vs India A match, where Australia A’s seven-wicket win was overshadowed by a ball-tampering controversy. Judge Shawn Craig noticed visible scratches on the ball and decided to replace it, attributing the damage to the actions of the India A players. The decision immediately caused tension on the field, with players and officials engaged in a heated exchange about the fairness of the call. The decision was carried out without further discussion and the match continued, but the incident had already begun to dominate the discussion.
Ishan KishiIndia’s wicketkeeper A expressed his disappointment at the decision, calling it a “very stupid decision”. His comments were caught on a stump microphone which added to the intensity of the situation. In response, judge Craig Keeshan sternly warned him of the consequences of dissent and told him he would be held accountable for his actions. Craig further increased the tension between the two sides, stressing that the ball change happened because of Kisha’s behavior. The clash sparked further scrutiny, with many questioning whether the ball substitution decision was justified or properly handled by the umpires.
David Warner questions Cricket Australia’s stance on the ball-tampering incident
Reacting to the incident, Warner has now expressed dismay at the speed with which the Australian cricket team handled the ball-tampering controversy. He said CA could move quickly to defuse the situation due to India’s upcoming tour of Australia and was trying to prevent any other complications ahead of the series. Warner emphasized that if the umpires had indeed observed something wrong, the incident warrants a proper investigation and prosecution. He urged the referees or the match referee to discuss the matter openly and clarify the matter.
“I think the final decision rests with the CA, right? I think they obviously squashed it as quickly as they could, given that India are coming out here this summer. But if the referees think something is going on, then I’m sure there will be a follow-up and I think the referees or the referee of the match should stand here and answer these questions.” Warner reports this with reference to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Warner demands accountability from the match referee and umpires
Warner then suggested that the match referee should take responsibility for the actions of the umpires, especially if they stop at the decision to change the ball. He argued that the CA should issue an official statement supporting the judges’ decisions if they believe the action was justified. By doing so, Warner felt CA would not only clear the air, but also show confidence in its officials, ensure transparency and protect the integrity of the game.
“I think the referee should come out and appeal to his staff, the referees, and if they stand by the referee’s decisions, then you should stand up for that. I think that’s an obvious statement that CA should probably leave out.” Warner added.
