Lightweight contender Keyshawn Davis is confident he will make mincemeat of his favored opponent Gustavo Lemos (29-1, 19 KOs) in their ten-round fight on ESPN+ at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia this Friday, November 8th. .
Lemos is NOT the guy they wanted evergreen 2020 Olympic silver medalist Keyshawn (11-0, 7 KOs) to fight. They were looking to pit Keyshawn against 38-year-old Nicholas Walters, and it’s understandable why.
Keyshawn has shown some flaws in his game that are a red flag that he is not ready to match up against top opposition without getting beat. For Top Rank to want Walters shows they don’t have confidence in him.
“I’m here to make great fights, and I’m proving it. I picked a tough fight for my homecoming,” Keyshawn Davis said Battle hypeand talks about his fight against Gustavo Lemos on Friday night November 8th.
“Every time you see me fight, you’ll love to see me fight. The co-main is a world championship fight. You have Abdullah Mason on the card, Troy Isley, my brother Keon and Kelvin. There is so much talent on this card. This is the best Top Rank card of the year by far from bottom to top,” Keyshawn continued.
Keyshawn’s brothers are not big talents, and neither of them show the type of ability to be top contenders or world champions. They’re just Keyshawn’s brothers and that’s it. There is not much else to say about them. Abdullah Mason is easily the best fighter in the entire career and has potential that Keyshawn can only dream of. Top Rank isn’t rushing Mason, though, and that’s a shame because he’s now ready to fight much better opposition than the guys they fed him.
“You can see who is driving Top Rank to be the next star. They believe in me. They know I have all the potential, charisma and talent to take them there. I’m here to be Top Rank’s next star. I am here to preside over the top position. I’m here to be the heart of Top Rank because they need it right now.
“They believe in me and push me to it, and I’m here to stay for them. They treated me right, as you can see,” Keyshawn said. “We are here to take Top Rank to the next level. I’m going to be ready to fight, but when I walk out, it’s going to be like x two. Gustavo is about to get up.”
It’s true that Top Rank is pushing Keyshawn, but not because he’s going to be the flagship fighter for their company. He’s being pushed because he’s crazy, personable, and has more potential to get attention outside of the ring than anyone else Top Rank. But in terms of talent, Keyshawn is far behind fighters like Vasily Lomachenko, Abduallh Mason, Raymond Muratalla and Denys Berinchyk. Those fighters are much more advanced.
“It’s going to be a hell of a fight. Gustavo comes to fight. If you haven’t seen my last fight, go watch it because that’s how Gustavo will fight. You will also enjoy it from round one to round ten. My last fight (against Miguel Madueno) was action packed,” Keyshawn said.
Davis showed more willingness to throw punches in this fight, and use less wrestling if he wants to defeat Lemos because this guy is going to lay hands on him.
If you’ve followed Keyshawn’s amateur career, you’ll notice that he stresses when he has opposition punching holes in him. When Keyshawn gets hit hard, he loses his focus and fights like he’s lost his senses. He is someone who cannot handle being met with fierce enemy fire. He is at his best when fighting someone who is smaller, slower and weaker. His matches against Jose Pedraza and Anthony Yigit are examples of the type of opponents he does well against.
“So, if you want a little preview of what you’re going to see on Friday, go back and watch my last fight, Keyshawn Davis, against Miguel. Go watch my last fight, tune in, and Friday, November 8, stay tuned for another action-packed scare from ‘The Businessman,’” Keyshawn said.
Davis’ last fight against Miguel Madueno on July 6 is not the ideal one for fans to watch if they want to get excited about his matchup against Lemos on Friday night, as he was terrible in that match. Keyshawn fell apart under pressure from Madueno and threw the rule book out the window.
