Boxing results: Gabriela Fundora stops Alaniz in the 7th, winning the undisputed flyweight crown

On the undercard of the Golden Boy Promotions Floyd Schofield-Rene Tellez Giron event that aired live on DAZNGabriela “Sweet Poison” Fundora stopped Gabriela Alaniz (15-2, 6 KOs) in the seventh round to win the undisputed flyweight crown.

Gabriela Fundora entered Saturday night’s undisputed championship fight as the IBF champion and her opponent Gabriela Alaniz entered the contest as the unified WBC, WBA, WBO world champion. The fight turned out to be an action-packed fight that Fundora was able to end by stoppage.

Two years ago, siblings Gabriela and Sebastian Fundora gave television interviews about who would be the first to win a world title. Back in October 2023, Gabriela won the IBF world title, and five months later her brother became a unified champion when he defeated Tim Tszyu and won the WBO and the vacant WBC belt.

On Saturday night, Gabriela Fundora had the opportunity to sharpen her friendly sibling relationship with her brother Sebastian. In her clash for undisputed, 5-foot-9-inch southpaw Gabriela Fundora landed a solid right hook early in the opening round.

As round one progressed, the 5ft 3in Gabriela Alaniz closed the distance, landed a sharp combination and then went out of range. In the second round, Alaniz was able to land another solid combination, but she paid the price as Fundora responded by connecting with a big right hook.

Alaniz had a good start to round 3 when she connected with a 2-1 combination and followed it up by landing a flurry of punches. A firefight broke out in the final 30 seconds of the fourth round as both Fundora and Alaniz landed several power shots.

In rounds 5 and 6, Alaniz was able to land her offense, but every time Alaniz connected, she was hit by backfire. Midway through the seventh round, Fundora landed a big left hand that knocked Alaniz off balance.

Seconds later, Gabriela Fundora landed another big left hand that sent Gabriela Alaniz to the canvas. Alaniz was able to continue, but Fundora proceeded to land another hard shot, sending Alaniz back to the canvas.

Once again, Alaniz was able to stand up, but she looked a little shaky. At that point the referee decided to step in and stop the match. With the knockout victory, Gabriela Fundora (15-0, 7 KOs) is the new undisputed flyweight champion.

Now that 22-year-old Fundora has successfully conquered the flyweight division, she has a number of career options to choose from. However, before announcing any plans regarding her boxing future, Fundora wants to touch base with her co-promoters Golden Boy and Sampson Boxing to pursue the best option.
