Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is facing the sack from Al Ettifaq after a poor run of form and admitting he watches his former club instead of training.

The 44-year-old’s reputation as a coach and manager had already been tarnished following his disastrous spell in charge of Aston Villa.

Despite those tumultuous months at Villa Park, Harry Redknapp still thought it was a good idea presented Gerrard as a candidate for the England job.

Fortunately for anyone who is fond of the future of the Three Lions, Thomas Tuchel was finally named by the Football Association.

If Gerrard was one of the 10 people interviewed for the position It is not clear, but Tuchel’s signing meant that the former Liverpool ace and club legend would remain in Saudi Arabia.

It’s fair to say Gerrard hasn’t fared any better in the Saudi Pro League, the 72nd worst in the world (TeamForm) – of what he did in the English top flight as a manager.

Last season, for TNT SportsAl Ettifaq finished sixth with 48 points, exactly half the points accumulated by unbeaten champions Al Hilal.

So far this season, Gerrard’s side have won three of their eight games, sit 10th on 11 points and are already 13 points behind Al Hilal, without a win in their last five games.

The Sun report that the total loss of form has put Gerrard on the edge of the sack, although an interview with RedmenTVin which he admitted that structuring training sessions around Liverpool games is almost certain to be the final straw for club bosses.

That would mean the loss of a whopping £15.2m contract and with it any credibility Gerrard may have left to be considered a decent football manager.
