Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal and Tottenham learn next opponents

The draw for the 2024/25 EFL Cup quarter-finals took place on Wednesday evening, with teams now irresistibly close to reaching Wembley.

Liverpool’s headliners remain strong after overcoming a tough Brighton side 3-2 away, while Newcastle comfortably beat Chelsea 2-0 at home to keep their long trophy hunt alive.

Manchester United is also in the hat after starting the it was after Erik ten Hag with a 5-2 thrashing of Leicester under interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Arsenal beat Championship side Preston North End 3-0 away thanks largely to one impressive performance by 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri.

Tottenham are the last remaining members of the so-called ‘Big Six’ after beating eight-time winners Man City 2-1 at home, while Aston Villa were stunned at home by the same scoreline against Crystal Palace .

This season’s EFL Cup quarter-finals will be played from the week commencing 16 December.

The winners of these ties enter a two-legged semi-final in January and February before the showpiece finale at Wembley on 16 March.
