The Chicago White Sox are coming off one of the worst seasons in Major League Baseball history in 2024.
After finishing with a record of 41 wins and 121 losses, the White Sox are searching for a new manager before the 2025 season.
There appeared to be three candidates for the job, including Will Venable, Phil Nevin and interim manager Grady Sizemore.
One of these three appears to have emerged as the favorite to become the next manager of the White Sox.
According to Jon Heyman of The X, the White Sox are looking hard at Texas Rangers bench coach Will Venable for the job.
The White Sox are taking a close look at Rangers bench coach Will Venable. There’s no word yet that it’s done or locked, or even that he’ll necessarily accept if offered. He has turned down many opportunities in the past.

Heyman notes that there is no indication that a deal is done or even close to being done, but the White Sox appear to be very interested in Venable.
Venable has turned down various other opportunities for unknown reasons, so it will be interesting to see if they can come to a deal.
The White Sox had the most losses in all of baseball in 2024 and missed the postseason for the third straight year.
Three teams from the White Sox division made the postseason in 2024, including the Cleveland Guardians, Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals.
For the White Sox to be competitive in what appears to be a tough American League Central division, they will need to make some major changes before 2025.
Although they are coming off their worst season in franchise history, the White Sox won the AL Central just four years ago in 2021.
