The former player of the New Zealand National Cricket Team, Simon Doull, has come to the fore with a public announcement about his successor. MS Dhoni at Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He feels that Rishabh Pant should take over the baton and the franchise should go for him in the auction.
Simon Doull continued his possible retention option for Chennai Super Kings. The former New Zealand National Cricket Team cricketer went on to pick Ruturaj Gaikwad as the best catch for the team along with Ravindra Jadeja and Sri Lanka’s Matheesha Pathirana.

Talking about MS Dhoni, Simon Doull felt that the wicket-keeper will be there for one more season. He said that the former captain of the team is a franchisee and the team should retain him. Speaking to Jio Cinema, he explained:
“Ruturaj Gaikwad, then top of the tree Ravindra Jadeja is absolutely there, Matheesha Pathirana, I think absolutely. I see the MS coming out and I say I will let you know the day before the saves are allowed.
“He’s got them in a little bit of a spotlight right now as to whether or not he’s going to be there. Obviously, if he’s available and ready to go, he’s another one they have to grab. He’s a franchise guy.”
MS Dhoni confirmed to play in IPL 2025
Ruturaj Gaikwad was appointed last year’s captain after MS Dhoni relinquished the leadership. He had a decent campaign as captain but was the team’s best striker in the Indian Premier League.
On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja has been the MVP of the team for a long time and Matheesha Pathirana has been the best pacer for the team. He is a product of Chennai Super Kings and they would surely not want to let him go.
There are reports that MS Dhoni has confirmed that he will play in IPL 2025 and will be retained as an uncapped player. Along with him, Ravindra Jadeja is expected to be the first catch followed by Ruturaj Gaikwad and Matheesha Pathirana.

There are reports claiming that Rishabh Pant might enter the auction. Reports claimed that Delhi Capitals wanted to keep Pant but were unwilling to give him a leadership role.
Simon Doull feels that if Rishabh Pant comes to the auction, Chennai Super Kings should go hard for him. He believes that the young player is the one who will lead the team forward. He added:
“After what I’ve seen in this series, I think Rachin Ravindra. And as I said the other day, I think they’ll go big for Rishabh Pant if he goes to the auction. He’s the man to take them through the mail. Wherever MS Dhoni is,” he concluded.
