Earlier on the first day, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bowl first. However, their decision proved costly as they lost three of their top four batters in the first six overs. Despite their early struggles, Bangladesh managed to reach the 100-run mark, but eventually they were bowled out for a paltry 106 runs.
A dominant performance by South Africa in the first Test
In response, South Africa’s batting line-up took control of the match. When they lose their captain Aiden Markram early on, the Proteas received valuable contributions Tristan Stubbs, David Bedingham, Wynn Mulderand Kyle Verreyne.
Verreynne in particular was instrumental and became the first South African wicketkeeper to score a century in Bangladesh. His impressive innings helped South Africa build a substantial lead of 202 runs.
Early stumps on day 2 due to bad light
As the day drew to a close, Bangladesh still trailed by 101 runs, with a tough task ahead of them on day three. But, unfortunately, the second day’s play was postponed due to poor lighting and he left the match in South Africa where he managed to finish the match with an innings victory over Bangladesh.
Maharaj’s dismissal of Shanto was undoubtedly the turning point in the match and gave South Africa a significant advantage. The second day of the Test promises to be an interesting contest as Bangladesh face an uphill battle to recover.
