Barcelona sweating because of Frenkie de Jong’s injury

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has admitted Frenkie de Jong suffered an injury in training, prompting fears of a setback for the Dutch midfielder.

De Jong suffered an ankle injury in April and only returned earlier this month, playing a total of 24 minutes before the international break in October, for which he was not called up by the Netherlands to leave recover it

Ahead of Sunday’s visit of Sevilla, Flick admitted he was hoping to start De Jong before the Dutch midfielder had to limp out of training.

“He felt a bit of discomfort, he started with the group but then he went to the sidelines,” revealed Flick. “I wanted to start him, but we’ll see.”

AS De Jong’s latest issue is not related to his ankle problem and is simply a minor muscle complaint which led many at the club to fear he might not even make the squad against Sevilla.

The Dutchman was eventually included in Barcelona’s matchday squad, although his health remains to be seen.
