Hello friends, and welcome to the Thanksgiving week edition of The Rogers Report! I’m going to do things a little differently here today. Instead of taking you all through the best golfing and golfing moments from the past week, I’m taking a look back at the best golfing moments of the YEAR.
And speaking of golf moments, my colleagues (and more importantly, friends) and I will be talking ALL about them on the revamped GOLF “Drop Zone” podcast. Be sure to check it out wherever you listen to your podcasts.
Alright, here’s how this script will work. I took a handful of superlatives and gave each one a golf moment or two from 2024. All of these — sweet, hilarious, and downright funny — earned a superlative for their entertainment value. Enjoy.
Healthy
There’s something special about golfers and their dads. Maybe because dads are usually the ones who introduce the game to their kids, and definitely because parents are the biggest cheerleaders. So forgive me for tearing up when Bob MacIntyre earned his first PGA Tour victory the same week he welcomed his father as his caddy. Talk about a dream come true.
So happy for Bob MacIntyre.
All year he had been struggling and desperately missing home, so he brought her home to him.
Brought his mother to the PGA for home cooking. Objected there.
Then his dad was at the Canadian Open – and went on and won the hell out of it.

Back home to Scotland
Thanks to my family and friends who have supported me from the beginning and sacrificed so much. My team who put up with me, the fans at home and abroad and my sponsors who believed in me. Stories like this make me believe there really is IS magic in this game and remind me how lucky I am to cover golf for a living. If I had to pick a favorite story from this year (although I try hard not to pick favorites here at the Rogers Report), it would be this one.
Funny
Bryson DeChambeau (AKA the content king) could have an entire column dedicated to him, but I’ve decided to give him just one superlative this year. These are the rules! It wasn’t easy to pick just one moment from DeChambeau. I thought about the golf lesson he gave Johnson Wagner on the air after winning the US Open, his new streak where he wedges over his house in an attempt to make an ace and, of course, when he tried three different driver heads in seconds before moving into the final set at the US Open. But in the end, a moment perfectly captures Bryson above all others.
After hitting the tree, Bryson DeChambeau pulled a Masters driver board from the ground and moved it so his second wouldn’t hit him along the 13th fairway. Regulation officials said no and she was replaced. DeChambeau birdied the 13th to move to -8 pic.twitter.com/qOkaq49bMz

The content king creating a harmless buzz at Augusta National is as on-brand as the 2024 US Open champion. He’s in his Crushers gear, he’s showing off his gym gains by holding up that big sign and it seems like nothing unusual is happening. It’s beautiful and it’s the perfect DeChambeau moment.

Honorable mention
I would be remiss not to mention Matt Kuchar stunt on the 18th fairway in the Wyndham Championship under this superlative. DeChambeau took the cake here for obvious reasons, including the fact that his sign carry was harmless. The Kuchar thing was both completely ridiculous AND Weirdly confusing, but it made social media gold.
I mean, it’s not every day you get a forced Monday finish for someone in the 12th.
Funnier
Tyrrell Hatton might not know it, but he’s the funniest professional golfer in the world. I say this even though I have had very little interaction with the guy. His temper on the golf course sometimes turns heads the wrong way, but some of his moments are downright hilarious. Exhibit A: when he was playing so badly at the Open Championship in July that he decided to keep his bag.
Why did Tyrrell Hatton hold his bag on the 12th fairway at The Open?
“After that shot on 11, this is what I deserve,” he told course reporter Curt Byrum. pic.twitter.com/CR6feBMric

This is something you can expect to see at your local club championship. But a major? Unheard of! Hatton just doesn’t care, and that’s what makes him so funny.
Second prize here also goes to Hatton, who left himself an important reminder in his golf glove a few weeks ago.
The sweetest
There’s one day a year on the golf calendar that’s absolutely perfect in every way: the Wednesday of the Masters. The practice rounds are winding down and the preparation is over. It’s prime season and you can feel the excitement in the early spring air.
And, most importantly, it is Masters Par-3 Contest.
As incredible as the days of the Masters tournament are, Wednesday will always be my favorite day at Augusta National. There’s nothing like golfers relaxing with their families for some Par-3 Championship fun, and it’s the sweetest day of the year.
I’m not really sure how all professional players have such well-behaved children, because me and my siblings would probably have fought on live television if we’d been in the spotlight. There would be at least one meltdown for every hole, and someone would probably get out of anger. But not the children of professional players. They bring their A-game to this competition every year.
I can’t in good faith give the sweetest moment to a golfing family here, so I’m declaring the whole day wins. Maya Fowler, Sammy Spieth, Iris Lowry, Frankie Fleetwood and Dakota Watson: Congratulations! You melted the cold hearts of overworked adults everywhere for a brief moment in April.
JT and Jordan this! Cantlay and Schauffele it!

I’m already looking forward to the sweetest day of golf in 2025.
The random off-course moment
Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry had the best casual moment off the 2024 course when they (I’m using the term “they” loosely here, because McIlroy did 95 percent of the performance) joined forces and sang “Don’t Stop Believin'” after their win at the Zurich Classic.
This was, hands down, the most random and unexpected golf moment of the year for me. Nothing quite prepares you to open Twitter expecting to see a closed-door press conference after the round, and instead find pro players doing… well, this.
That reminds me I really need to get behind the scenes here. How on earth was McIlroy convinced to do that? Why was a karaoke party happening at the Zurich Classic? Can this happen in more events? Should other sports start incorporating a karaoke session into their awards ceremony?
the personal
I wanted to reflect on some of my favorite golfing moments from 2024, and two immediately came to mind. First there was the Solheim Cup. The entire week was unlike any other golfing experience I’ve had. It was intense. it Was thus fun. And most importantly, it was filled with golf fans of all ages. My favorite moment of the week was watching Nelly Korda and Charley Hull arrive in the first set to start the Sunday Singles matches. The energy was insane as two of the most popular players on the planet made their way to the tee. I remember I was thus excited for that match. I would relive this day in a heartbeat!
My other favorite memory of the 2024 golf season was the day I spent at the Masters with my dad and sister Ellen. We had such a blast and golf has played such a big part in our relationship that it felt like a full-circle moment at the most special course in the world.
The year isn’t over yet, and I’m fully expecting a handful of memorable moments at the Grant Thornton Invitational and the PNC Championship. As always, I’ll be sure to let you all know about them here.
