The 6th short par-4 has a raised green, punchbowl.
Jay Blasi
At a time when most new courses are the central parts of private clubs or additions to high dollar resorts, Poppy Ridge is a welcome exception-a high, public-priced appearance for all. In the rotary terrain in Livermore, Caliph., About an hour east of San Francisco, architect Jay Blasi (his latest loans include a first -degree restoration of Gold Gate Park Golf Course In San Francisco) got the best land out of the three nine existing nine to create a persuasive 18 -hole design that opens to play every day this weekend.
To coincide with that cutting the ribbon, here is all you need to know about a course that ranks among the most significant newbies of the year.
Is the course of sisters of a previous tour stop
Poppy Ridge belongs to the North California Golf Association, which also owns Poppy hills in Monterey, caliph., Once a part of AT&T Pebble Beach pro-am Rota. Like Poppy Hills, Poppy Ridge offers discount for members of NCGA 220,000 Plus, who can play it for as little as $ 70 during the days of the week. For non-NCGA members, the maximum rates to $ 175.
Is a brilliant walk
Poppy Ridge has been a relative bargain since its birth in 1996. Blasi was saved from those wild traits. In its new course, the 18 -hole walk is one mile and a quarter shorter than it was before, and while there are still many moves from Tee to Green, the transitions have softened (now there are 400 meters less change in altitude). And a course that once shouted for you to get a cart now counts as a great place to catch and hold.
Includes a golden homage to the golden age
Course design does not occur in a vacuum. The impacts flow back and forth. In par-3 3, which plays around 106 yards in 197 yards, tumuli and ridges behind the green mirror the sketch of the distance-a lid from Blasi to the famous Canadian designer Stanley ThompsonThe heard work of the Golden Age at Jasper Park Lodge Golf Course in Alberta includes green complexes that match their Rocky Mountain background. In Poppy Ridge, this clumsy flowering serves an additional aesthetic function: hides a man -made pond (like many architects, Blasi does not like the features of artificial water) that sat in simple appearance in old design.
Is a flexible design
According to the result card, Poppy Ridge plays 4,225 yards from its previous Tee and 7,010 from the back. But Blasi also made room for an even longer Tea group, it would not mean daily games, but about NCAA and other tours that the course aims to wait. From those boxes, it is a par-70 with 7.350-yard design.
Game on Earth
In Ridge Old Poppy, postponed greens, forced trucks and frontal bunkers make the play essential. The new course rolls that scenario, with land game trails to most of the targets and the fiery terrain that allows for inventive attacks.
Making birds is easier than losing balls
As in a connection, the wind can blow in Poppy Ridge, and the course has abundant ways to accommodate. The challenge here is not finding your ball, it’s understanding how to better play it. Choose from the right teas, and you will surely end up pulling each club in your bag and setting a variety of numbers. There are many bold, but also par 5S accessible and repetitive, depending on where you connect it-par 4s, including 6-fold wild entertainment, with a raised Gruchbowl-Language inspired by the 12th hole in a new Zealand called Waverley Golf Club.
