Manchester – In the last three weeks, I have danced from one place to one place after this silly game – from Scottish Open (PGA Tour) to the Open Championship (Major) to Liv Golf UK. On the way, we have seen breakout stars, fading stars, zero shooting stars, and just enough things that make you ask – where does this sport run?
For this, we have six thoughts about the state of things, interesting observations from the way … and how European golf and football have run parallel paths. Immerse…
1. Gotterup’s travel heater
It was exactly 17 days ago that Chris Gotterup shot 61 in the second round of Open Scottish. It was a quiet round, morning in the renaissance of the club that few people, and few cameras, were even following. But that pushed him to the top of the manager’s table, and from there he did so much. it I crashed Rory Mcilroy over the weekend In Scottish, and then you did, as well as you can against Scottie Scheffler next weekend. Then he left for Minneapolis and was again in quarrel, finishing T10.
When we talked after that Friday morning 61, Gotterup still had a flight itinerary reserved by Edinburgh in Reno to Barracuda. He told us he was planning to play the full season, means Reno -> Minneapolis for 3m Open -> Greensboro for the Wynham championship. My, how things change. He is shot to NO. 20 in FedEx Cup AND in the Ryder American Cup ranking. The first will make it a lot of money, considering that he is in great position for East Lake. The latter, good … some thoughts:
In many ways, this Gotterup run is exactly what Keegan Bradley wants for his team Ryder Cup. And in other ways, it is exactly what he does not want. A recent move from a player who was not on your radar just complicates the list building, and makes life difficult at Patrick Cantlays, WynDham Clarks and Jordan Spieths of the World. It feels like Memfis and Delaware are a two-week court period for all American bubble players, and I hope Gotterup keeps it because three things feel very true. 1. His game travels clearly, from East Lothian to Nor’n Ireland until wet, hot summer in the middle of America. 2. It has not only been the last 17 days-it has been great since mid-April. 3. He looked at Mcilroy down and beat him. This should be good for Bethpage.
2. Grind i koepka
Three days after his big season ended with another goose egg, I found brooks scrambled in the Liv range in the ball position. Ricky Elliot was working for different views from each corner, trying to go a simplicity in the Koepka configuration. Long time, Pete Cowen was watching Koepka, and not long after that McDowell Graeme, too.
“It just feels hard like a shit,” Koepka Cowen told him, leaving behind a driver. G-Mac then emphasized how the koepka had to maintain his attitude as he was open to the target, which he seemed to be experimenting-and bend in his anterior foot more.

This is the kind of delightful golf things that tells a story in itself. A story about Koepka, the 5-year-old champion, who was dissatisfied with his game this summer. About Elliot, Kadiu who was talking very sincerely with his profession – something Koepka says need from his team. And McDowell, the teammate who would probably not give a curse, were not his employer in essence.
It may not be much, but it was felt like a window in the liv team element. Team items matter as much as everything for that enterprise because it should. They are It is reported that to set up team bag for 2026 eventsBut it’s not all the money. Sergio Garcia absolutely believes he is doing something for the future of Spanish golf by signing new Spanish players on his team. Bubba Watson says he will be a non -played captain in the future, keeping confidence that the goats of the verse will live on the street for years. (Who knows if this will be true, but Watson has to believe it. He may not have a solution!) Majesticks have built greater and greater activations at every UK -based Liv event over the years, and seemed to be a hit with their crowd at home. Again, they I have To do this. It’s their model! And ultimately is underestimated by their gloomy watching of TV. But it still feels worth mentioning when you see it.
3. The greater MUST Open open?
Postebles possible that the large size of this open was perfect. Especially for R&A, who claimed to “put a new landmark” for general viewing, personally and through broadcast channels and digital. But there is a worthy question to have how big it has become open.
This year’s opening was MASSAnd we may have seen in its size due to the obsession of spectators with the reigning masters sample. You can escalate the dunes in the portrait for a better look, but you can’t do it in St. Andrews. Or Royal Liverpool. That complicates the ability of anyone who real SEE Golf. The repetition of 2025 was assisted by the course of the intersection course, which allows fans to move from the hole to the hole, from nine to the back nine, quite easily. But in courses outside and back-two of them called above, in addition to the large Troon-Turks tend to gather towards the start/finish area and not flow to the course.
All this is important … Before you discuss the trips – in silence, The spectators left disappointed With two-hour delays from a Park-N-Ride on Tuesday in Portrush-or how many beds there are in these small, beach cities. I do not foresee that this will be a lot of an Open issue next year at Royal Birkdale, in which both nine return to the club, with many nearby host cities, but will be the first open with a qualifying game of games Monday of the open week. Participation for that day will surely be growing. R & a I DO participation in STAY getting up. But where is the ceiling?
4. Where will the history of liv live…?
During my time at Manchester-Post Open and Pre-Liv-made a stop at the National Football Museum, I entered the northern neighborhood of the city. It is a multi -level building that mainly adapts to dynamic visuals (and interactive areas for children), but I appreciated how curators were not involved in incorporating some of the most anxiety topics of English football.
There were sections related to racism and sexism-some of the obstacles that have prevented not only football but for centuries-but even more concentrated football issues such as super leagues, foreign investments and fans. He made me ask about the main issues of anxiety in Golf these days, and if we will see him chronically, say, the USA Museum or the R&A Museum one day. Probably probably soon to archive Liv Golf in an official capacity as it continues to be overthrown, but I certainly have some objects/video to contribute from my time visiting its tournaments.
5. 13 Rules look perfect
While we are on the subject of European football, I saw it cute (and nothing more) that the original list of football rules was as long as the original golf rules. Thirteen deep decrees!
Inside it was another reminder of how well the original golf rules have kept – and for longer – because the rules of the foot have certainly changed a lot since 1863. Original field? Two hundred meters by 100, basically twice the size of the current play field. What about the ball catch? That was apparently one thing.
In the original golf rulesHowever, made in 1744 by Edinburgh’s venerable goaling company, much has stayed. You are still not allowed to change the ball after you have started a hole, you still have to play it while standing, and you still have to start every hole from an area that fits the original definition of an eighth land. This course has not mainly changed to 281 years. People in Muirfield were very right. Something tells me that they could have seen golf -distance problems on the horizon.

5 not the only one in summer Vacay
During July, I noticed a lot of people – out of ropes and inside – clashing for the PGA champion to return in August, intentionally ignorant of what it is left August to start with: NFL program. Our sport cannot and should not, try to compete with football, with which many leaders agreed when PGA moved in May 2019. The August month is best left to PGA Tour – the most important pro -playing cleaner – and its main sponsor, FedEx, and that’s it. The toothpaste is already out of the tube!
My thoughts: embrace this fascinating moment in the Pro Golf Schedule, where the stars of the game are going on vacation … as long as they are in good shape. Victor Hovland went to mountaineering in Norway. Ludwig Aberg enjoyed home for some time, too, and even held a 6k race with his girlfriend. Justin Thomas went on a trip to Golf Buddies. Rory Mcilroy made a non-Golf journey to Saint-Propez before receiving Padraig Harrington’s open victory in Sunningdale. These are examples of summer rest that are very much needed for anyone in the tournament. Players who have not won it, unfortunately, have a little summer school they tend to. Many of them flew from Belfast to Minneapolis for FedEx Cup points on offer at 3m open. Adam Scott, Sam Burns, Wynham Clark and Rickie Fowler might not be happy for the trip, but their professional condition is better for him.
Something very valuable at Starpower for PGA Tour – See: Jordan Spieth playing the Wyndham championship this week – so don’t expect the tournament to release control in August. In fact, they have to embrace it. And promote America’s PGA Consider a change of format the firstSight.)
6. Yasir’s game
I left to walk some holes with Bryson Dechambeau during his Liv Pro-AM, partly because I always enjoy seeing Bryson to be Bryson, but also because he was playing with Yasir al-Rumayyan-khaga that evokes drinking in any future billion-dollar investment PGA Tour. No, I have not received any clarity if that investment will ever take place, but I have taken a good look at Yasir’s game … again.
It feels irrelevant, but in some ways it is not. Almost every account, Al-Rumayyan’s interest in investing in Pro Golf comes from a burning love ABOUT Golf he is fixed, was (at least at the same time) very interested in using this investment to gain access to Augusta National, and he regularly shows up to Liv Pro-AMS for face time with players. I have been there for some of these pro-am beginnings over the years, and I think his swing has improved. Is it worth nothing for the future of golf? Maybe not. Just a small dumb observation. Like this: I saw it Hit a cold arm over my head in the 9th hole in JCB. Unfortunately, the forecast was very fast and traced the ball before I could. However, I watched him play a resourceful chip on a sponsorship sign for Riyadh Air, who felt like … the whole point.
