From the hogan alleys to the Jack’s place.
Ben griffin scored his second PGA Tour victory in five weeks, taking home high honors in Colonial club In Fort Worth, Texas, in Charles Schwab Challenge. Griffin joins 71 other players this week at Jack Nicklaus designed Muirfield village In Dublin, Ohio, for the memorial tour as the seventh of the eight signature events on the Tour PGA 2025 schedule.
We have noticed in Our column last week The colonial can be a good indicator of the potential US Open Success. I would say that Muirfield Village is another to pay attention when formulating your third major season championship handicap, which occurs within two weeks. Nicklaus began construction of this property in 1974 and has never really stopped. The last visible tweaks came in 2020 and in 2021. The Muirfield Village is a par 72 now extending to about 7,600 yards. This season marks the 50th anniversary of the memorial tournament. It is always a Marquee event and is one of the biggest stops on tours outside of four diplomas. There is a cut of 36 holes this week. The 50 best players and connections make it on the weekend, as well as anyone who is within 10 of the lead shooting.
2025 Memorial Tournament Chances: Scottie Scheffler Great (Again) in Ohio
The fair roads are relatively generous in width, but are tied to trees and are limited by many criminals, thick, approximate. The greens are large bare surfaces, fast lightning, bentgrass. As a big championship, Muirfield will test all the player fields of a player. I looked at the blows won: out of tee, the shocks won: the approach and the shocks won: Tee to Green this week. Scrambling is a large part of the puzzle here such as Bogey avoidance. I looked at the first 5 note in those measuring 550-600 yards and par 4s from 450-500 yard. Finally, I looked at the proximity of the holes from 175-200 yards and won strokes: Bentgrass.
I believe that interconnected courses this week can be difficult to get down with great conviction. The course created by Nicklaus, the concession, seems to be a very good indicator. Although I do not feel that the appearances are particularly similar, there should be something with the Nicklaus design factor in Valhalla, the PGA 2024 championship house, where that governing board is full of players who have had success and/or victory at Muirfield Village. I also watched TPC potomac (2022 Wells Fargo Championship), TPC Twin City (3M Open), TPC River Highlands (Championship Travelers), East Lake (Tour Championship) and Innisbrook, House for Valspar Championship.
I have played each of the following choices for a full win. I played two shorter shooting even for a Top-10 finish and the rest for a Top-20 finish.
Collin Morikawa (18-1)
It can be difficult to hit the “appearance” in making this bet, given that Morikawa has not enjoyed victory on American soil since 2021. Incidentally, it happened to be in concession, one of our interconnected courses this week. Morikawa held three former commemorative champions at that event, Victor Hovland, Billy Horschel and Scottie Scheffler. He won at Muirfield Village earlier in 2020, when they played in Jack’s place in successive weeks. He has twice finished the race in Memorial, most recently, last year. Morikawa was in the last pair of Valhalla in 2024 and completed the race in both TPC twin cities and the Tour championship in East Lake. During the last 36 rounds, Morikawa ranks sixth in this field for SG: Tee to Green.
Justin Thomas (24-1)
We know Thomas played very well as late and was the one that Morikawa beat at a Play off at Muirfield Village again in 2020. Thomas has three racing endings this season and two, as well as a win, in its last five beginnings. One of those competitors came to the Valsspar Championship, a course linked to us this week. Thomas has finished 5 ball in East Lake five times, including the race twice and was 10 balls in TPC River Highlands three times. About the only thing that is not in his favor this week is his struggle with Pitter in Bentgrass greens. However, Thomas, ranks 17th in the SG tour: setting.

Shane Lowry (40-1)
Lowry had a very high profile win earlier in his career about two hours north of Muirfield Village in the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. Lowry’s best end here was the sixth in 2021. He was also the sixth in Valhalla last May at the Championship PGA. He has graduated from TPC River Highlands, East Lake, and Valspar Championship, where he just received eight months ago. During the last 36 rounds, Lowry is fifth in this field for SG: access and avoiding bogey. He ranks third for scrambling and SG: Tee to Green.
Jordan Spieth (50-1)
It’s been a while since I landed in Spieth to win a golf tour. In fact, Spieth has not seen the winner’s circle since 2022 but from his wins 13 PGA Tour, one has come to the travelers championship, one in the Valsspar Championship, and another at the Tour Tour Championship. Spieth has five Top-20 conclusions here in Memorial, as well as three Top-7 conclusions. It ranks second in this field in the courtyard 550-600 par 5s during the last 36 rounds and 15 per SG: Tee to Green.
Robert Macintyre (80-1)
“Bobby Mac” made a run last week at Texas in Charles Schwab Challenge, ending the sixth, where he was ranked nine in the field for SG: access and fifth for greens in the regulation. During the last 36 rounds, he ranks ninth in this field for SG: off the tee. This is the first time of Macintyre who has ever played the memorial, but I believe he is a player who is at the best of his difficult golf courses. He was eighth last year at the PGA Championship in Valhalla.
Cauley bud (100-1)
I believe this is the second time this season I have been to the former member of the Golf team in Alabama. On his return to form, Cauley was great in 2025, completing 6 top four times, including a third -place finish last week in Colonial and a fourth two months ago in the Valsspar championship. It ranks in Top 17 or better on the field this week, for any statistics I have considered over the past 36 rounds. He is ninth in Scrambling, 11th for SG: Tee To Green, and is second near the holes of 175-200 yards.
