The new year is upon us, and that means it’s resolution season. The turn of the calendar to 2026 is a great reason to appreciate and reflect on the year that was. And once that reflection is over, you can start making plans for how to improve in the next 12 months.

If you want to make 2026 a great year on the field, it’s important to start forming healthy habits for better golf. Below are five resolutions you can make about your golf game to make this your best season yet.

1. Start clubbing

We all want to hit more greens in regulation, right? Well, the easiest way to do that – without even changing your swing – is by getting more club.

According to data from Shot Scope, the average recreational golfer (~15 handicap) misses the greens about 54 percent of the time. This is usually the result of poor contact, not knowing their true limits and overconfidence in their abilities.

So what can you do to fix this? It’s quite simple: just get more club. Sure, you might catch it every now and then and fly it to the green, but most of the time, the extra club will result in better yards and more greens.

2. Keep your grooves clean

One of the most popular topics among recreational golfers is how they can generate more spin with their wedges. The single most important thing they can do right from the start is having clean grooves.

When your grooves have dirt and grass in them, the club can’t create friction and spin the ball. So no matter how good your technique is, you won’t generate maximum spin. Keep your grooves clean and rolling becomes much easier.

Think of it this way: if you’re feeling sick, you wouldn’t just Google your symptoms and treat yourself based on the search results, right? (Some of you might, but it wouldn’t be advisable long-term.) The same principle applies when it comes to your golf swing. Your golf coach is like your doctor, and if you really want to get better, you need to get checked out by a professional.

4. Suit up for clubs

Preparation for clubs is another major avenue for improvement. If you have a unique swing that you’ve been playing with for years, getting into the right gear can be a game changer. There’s no need to make any major swing changes when you can play clubs that are optimized for your swing.

That’s not to say that a new driver will automatically make you blast 350-yard bombs down the fairway (if it was, I’d already be playing it), but the right gear can help you drive your fairway or squeeze a few extra yards from each club.
