If you are hard to think about only cold, fresh white wines during the summer months, you are not alone. When Mercury arrives in his zenith for the year, a cold rose is likely to be the closest to get many red wine to drink. But according to Tim Healy, the drink manager at ResortThis is a mistake.
“There are absolutely red varieties that I believe is worth trying the cold,” he says. “The basement or extra cold temple, the same wines can create unique experiences.”
Here, we share four of Healy’s recommendations (plus one of ours) for reds during the summer. Morality of the history of the drink manager? Do not be afraid to try something new and never feel like you have to match the conventional wines’ habits.
“Sometimes the best summer experiences have had around a picnic table with friends,” he says, “eating a mess of a hamburger or a peach cobblestone while drinking your wine from plastic cups.”
We will drink for that.
Pinot Noir holds a special place in Healy’s heart. More specifically, it is his summer wine, thanks to his character with a middle body and the ability to display Terroir.
“Whether you are making camps in a national park or resting after a long growth, Pinot is a great wine to highlight those experiences,” he says, adding that winery Derek Rohlffs not only knows his pinot, but creates a flag that shines when cool. “This affordable pinot punches a lot over its weight, relying on a profile of dark berry aromas and even cola notes. Enjoy this cold with a soft fuel boards with honey and some fresh wild rice.”
Plavac mountain is a unique grape. It grows along the Dalmatian coast of Croatia, blooming in heat and intense sunlight beating in the steep vineyards of the region, which rise above the Adriatic Sea. Historically, grapes (and summer made by them) never made it away from the Croatian coast, Healy explains. On the contrary, locals have enjoyed the summer for decades – perhaps centuries – often serving it with a plate of sausage consisting of minced meat served with local cheeses. Recently, Grgich Hills in Rutherford, Calif., Has brought that summer to states. Take a page from Healy’s book and serve cooled with burgers, cheese and cardboard boards.
According to Healy, Gamay is a classic variety of red grapes that produces a perfect cold wine, though it can sometimes be difficult to find in the countries. Fortunately, Obsidian Wine Co. In Sonoma makes one, called “Vin Chanmé”, which illustrates the style.
“Bright and balanced red acid fragrances, really appear with the extra cold,” he says. “” F stop you next to their taste room, there is a strong chance that they already have an extra cold just waiting for you to enjoy. “
Passover never tell Amarone, $ 130
As Healy admits, summer is synonymous with outdoor frying, which means that it often requires a wine that “can hold against a hearty part of the meat”. He usually reveals that with an Amaron, a red wine style made “appsimoto”, which means that the grapes are dried before being crushed.
“This allows sugars and aromas to focus,” he explains. “The result is a fantastic rich and full body wine.”
More specifically, Healy worships Mai Mai Mai of the Pasqua, whom he says is “a perfect example of what should be amarone – rich and deep black cherries complemented by sweet spices”.
2022 Stags Leap Red Corrections, $ 100
This latest recommendation is not healy but of mine. A collection of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec, Vintage of Corrections Red Stags of 2022 needs time to breathe, but after staying in a clove or decan, the wine turns into a showstopper. With herbaceous aromas, including terragon allusions, and a black currant jam, this red gives sweeter than spices on the nose. However, in the palate, the berries shine. It is soft, round and light, which makes it approach for the warmest summer nights even at room temperature.
