TGL’s debut season has reached PlayoffsAnd with my personal trips leading me to South Florida for the weekend, I decided to stop by Sophia center to check it.
I would watch a little TGL action on TV during the winter, but I would not consider myself dead in any way. It has simply been a strong sporting event to throw on TV all winter for some free emotions.
That is to say, I was curious to see what experiences within the people it was about. Luckily for me, the schedule worked for me to get in the first round PLAY match Between New York Golf Club and Los Angeles Golf Club.
Here are five things I have noticed by participating in my first Date match.
1. The object is impressive
As I said above, I have seen some TGL matches on TV but I don’t think I really understood how large Sophie Center feels. The playing field is MASS.
The listed size of the simulator is 64 × 46 meters, but I swear he feels greater in person. Standing on the ground before the match, I was putting my neck looking at it as if it were a table in Times Square. It feels bigger than life when you sit there looking for it for a while.
The same goes for the size of the rotation that rotates green. I really didn’t have an understanding of the degree of things inside the Sophie Center before I got a match, but leaving, I was very impressed.
2. Size has a weakness
The arena size was definitely impressive, but to play house golf on this scale, there must be a lot of empty space. And, unfortunately, that open space damages the atmosphere.
Despite the lit LED lights and Rowdy MC riding in the fans, things felt a little subjected from time to time during the match. I wouldn’t say it was as calm as a library, but it certainly didn’t have the feeling of a greatly playing event. And when the crowd was excited, that noise does not reverber as you can expect.

There were some exciting moments to be safe, but the energy was not held. The cheers came and went FAST. Maybe some healthy engineering to block the sound would exalt the atmosphere for season 2?
3. It is not always attracting attention … But that is okay
The action may be quick on the playing field, but that does not mean that there is always fun of your road. And with so many shots hit in such a short time, that will be expected.
The more I sat and looked, the more I felt that the energy matched that of a baseball game. What I mean by this is that the crowd was not living and died of every shot (just as the crowd is not locked up for every pitch in a baseball game), but when the big moments appeared, they were closed.
I don’t want to say any of these as an easy one, neither. I’m a big fan to go to baseball games – and sometimes that has nothing to do with action on the field. Sometimes the social aspect of live sports is as fun as gameplay.
4. Set up some vacancies!
I will not go to a Diatribe railing against high ticket prices in the Golf world. There are many of those last years and at the end of the day, I understand this is a business. However, I think the atmosphere at the Sophie Center would benefit from some vacancies.
Returning to the baseball analogy, think about the bleachers in Wrigley Field. No, they are not the most luxurious places in Ballpark, but fans there do not care. As long as they can get into the park, drink beer and cheer on their team, they are happy.
It would be great to see TGL offering a similar experience. Build one or two new section in the MAH with a cheap receipt price and affordable concession options. Do you want a strict atmosphere that feels the least corporate? This would be a great place to start.
I will keep this short, as Been is covered before, But not having the player’s comment from the broadcast inside the arena feels like a miss. Part of the appeal of this format is the division between players, but when you are in the arena, that element is missing. Even if there were only a quick wrap of viral moments on the big screen playing after every few holes, it would be extremely extra for the experience of people.
However, I left my first experience of Impressed TGL. For a product in its infancy, there is a lot of room for growth, but there are many that is done properly. I’m excited to see where they get things in the seasons ahead.
