Former Unified Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-5, 53 COs) is allegedly considering this after eight years of retirement. He wants to try to win a world title at 49, but it looks far -fetched.
Vladimir Klitschko has not fought since he had an eleventh round to Anthony Joshua on April 29, 2017. Klitschko was 41 at the time and had been inactive for two years and lost to Tyson Fury in 2015 by a defective 12 round decision.
Vladimir looked very bad in those fights and in his second round loss of Corrie Sanders. Losing against the defeatable Fury and Joshua showed that Wladimir no longer had that spark. He basically created the careers of the two British giants, AJ & Fury, because they probably would never have become stars if he did what he was supposed to do.
Foreman’s record
The Ring reported that Klitschko wants Break George Foreman’s record of the oldest champion. On November 5, 1994, Foreman, who was 45 at the time, knocked out in the tenth round to capture the IBF and WBA heavyweight titles.
Foreman, however, was in the ideal situation: a former 175-pound champion, Moorer, who was bad for heavyweight competition.
It would be unfair for the many contenders waiting for a world title as Klitschko they jump and be challenged immediately for a world title in his comeback.
The USK/Pulev road
Klitschko’s only chance of winning a title in his comeback is to face WBA, WBC and WBO champion Oleksandr uksk or WBA ‘ordinary’ belt holder Kubrat Pulev. 11 years ago, Wladimir knocked out in the fifth round in the fifth round on November 15, 2014 – he was 38 at the time.
He will not succeed against IBF champion Daniel Dubois because he is hitting too hard, and Vladimir has never done well against the kind of fighters.
Aggression needed
If Klitschko comes back, he must let his hands go and fight with more aggression than he showed in his clashes against Joshua and Fury. In both losses, Wlad fought as if he were afraid to throw for fear that he would be knocked out.
He prepared Joshua to be knocked out after dropping him at the Wembley Stadium in the sixth round. Instead, Klitschko ignored his corner and tried to box Joshua, which enabled him to recover and returned to turn him in the 11th.
When he lost to Fury, Wlad did not fight aggressively, but the younger fighter dropped his way to victory. It was sad to look at, because Vladimir had the power and hand speed advantage, but would not pull the trigger.
