4 things we learned from Ruben Amorim’s first interview as Man Utd manager

It only took one interview for Ruben Amorim to woo Manchester United fans and sell them on the dream of bringing success back to their beloved club.

Composed, safe and concise – Amorim did its thing clear feelings friday eveningadmitting he was “honoured” to be chosen as Old Trafford’s next great leader. He arrives with a plan, to instill belief in his squad and restock United’s trophy cabinet with new platforms.

But what did we really learn from Amorim’s first words as United boss? 90 minutes have analyzed his interview.

The word identity has entered every conversation Man Utd lately, and for all the wrong reasons.

The club has continually been criticized for its lack of unity, but it looks like all of that is about to change. “We have to have an identity,” Amorim told MUTV. “If our players take the shirt, they’ll know it’s the Manchester United team. Everyone thinks the same, runs, plays, enjoys. That’s what drives me.”

Amorim certainly created an identity at his former club Sporting CP, guiding them to two top-flight titles during his four years with the Portuguese outfit. Manchester City faced the full wrath of Sporting d’Amorim in the Champions League earlier this monthand if he can bring even a fraction of that to United, they could become a much-feared Premier League side.

Jason Wilcox, Dan Ashworth

There has been a lot of movement at Man Utd in recent seasons, but they finally have a structured hierarchy, and now a new manager who has already established a relationship with those in charge at the club.

Amorim admitted: “Sir Jim (Ratcliffe) and Sir Dave (Brailsford) but especially Omar (Berrada), Dan (Ashworth) and Jason (Wilcox) – I felt a connection and I felt we’re in the same moment. We want to do something special in the special club So I think that was a key point.”

It is important that Amorim mentioned these key figures during his first interview, it shows that he understands the club and is highly valued by those in charge. He seems confident that he was the one the club wanted to sign and is keen to prove they made the right decision.

From initial murmurs of Amorim’s long-awaited arrival at Old Trafford, talks have ended how you configure your teams and the big differences between the way United play at the moment. But he doesn’t seem concerned about a new system or a change in tactics, instead hoping to use his team’s strengths.

“Now a lot of people are talking about the 3-4-3 and the 4-3-3 and all that stuff,” he said. “But when I think as a player or as a teammate of Manchester United, it’s not a training system, it’s like the character of the players, the way they see the club.”

Despite all the criticism, Man Utd have a solid squad. With someone like Amorim at the helm, we may even see players who were once seen as stars find their way back into the limelight.

social media flooded with messages of praise and positivity after Amorim’s speech on Friday night. It’s clear he already has the fans on his side, which will become crucial once he settles into his new role.

Fans were quick to turn against Erik ten Hag when the Dutchman started to put up poor results. Being in charge of a club like Man Utd, with a huge global following, can be both a blessing and a curse.

It’s certainly not for the faint-hearted, but with the way things are going at the moment, Amorim will be welcomed to Old Trafford with open arms when he takes charge of his Europa League opener at home against Bodo/Glimt at the end of month
