Rotating shooting around the greens are not just a trick that will impress your play partners – it’s a skill that will come available when you have a little green to work with it or you have to quickly stop the ball.
Despite its benefits, many amateurs – like me – still shy of this blow. For me, this is because the blow seems really intimidating and I don’t believe I’m ‘good enough’ to hit it. But it is actually much easier than you would think.
As I sought tips on how to raise my rotation around green, I encountered a champion video twice PGA Tour Akshay Bhatia descending to its signature height. In the clip, he explained that the key to owning this blow simply descends Three simple adjustments.
To see if it was really easy, I tried them myself and to my surprise his keys worked. For the first time in a long time, I am able to stop the ball in green and this has become my short game – and now you can transform your own. To add this stroke to your arsenal, copy the Bhatia keys below.
Open your club
The setting of Clubface Open is Bhatia’s first key to creating rotation in these shorter shots. By placing the face open, we expose and use more club grooves while the ball travels up to the face. On the other hand, this maximizes our friction – which is a key component for creating rotating tones.
Personally, I like to open my club before putting my hands on the handle. This ensures that I keep an open face throughout the movement.
The ball position back
The second Bhatia adjustment does is to play the ball again in his attitude. Moving your back ball position allows you to make the first contact ball, which is another key to maximizing friction – and as a result our rotation.
Drive forward, treat forward
Finally, when creating rotation in these shorter shots, Bhatia says he thinks to move forward with his body and avoids the permission of the club’s head to pass his hands.
“I go ahead with my body and keep my glove forward,” Bhatia says, “You’re not trying to add any loft to the stroke.”
By keeping your hands forward, you will create a little from the axis front in the influence and reduce your attic– What is another key to generating rotation around green.
Practice, practice, practice
When I first tried this blow, I will be honest – it didn’t go as planned. But after a while, I began to generate serious rotation and stop the ball in a coin. This became a player of the game, especially in courses with levels of levels where accuracy is everything.
