NEW YORK CITY (USA). Olympic champion Sifan Hasan admitted that he struggled on the hills during his New York marathon debut, NOS reports. “I really thought I had hurt myself. My hips, honestly, I could barely lift my knees. I couldn’t do hills…I didn’t do a lot of hill training. After Sydney it was mostly tempo training. Maybe that should change,” he said.
NEW YORK CITY (USA). Defending champion Abdi Nagei has pulled out of the New York Marathon due to hip and hip problems, NOS reports. “For my health, I want to run a few more marathons, so I had to make that decision (to drop out). I can look back with pride. It was my fifth time and I finished fifth, fourth, third and first,” he said.
NEW YORK CITY (USA). The New York City Marathon set the record for the largest number of marathon finishers at 59,226. This beats the previous record of 56,640, set at this year’s London Marathon. This year’s race featured 31,927 men, 27,156 women and 143 non-binary finishes. The average finish time was 4:18:55 for men and 4:48:11 for women. via David Monti.

NEW YORK CITY (USA). After running 2:24:45 on her marathon debut, Jessica Warner-Judd became the first British woman to run sub-2:00 for the 800m and sub-2:25 for the marathon. Other notable athletes who have achieved this include Sifan Hassan, Tigst Assefa and Genzebe Dibaba.
NEW YORK CITY (USA). Germany’s Silva, winner of the New York City Marathon in 1994 and 1995, competed in yesterday’s event. The Mexican finished in 3:12:56 at the age of 57.
NEW YORK CITY (USA). The World Athletics Heritage Plaque was awarded posthumously to the late founder of the New York City Marathon, Fred Lebow, at a dedication ceremony for the World Museum of Athletics (MOWA). The careers of 15 running stars from the past five decades were also honored, including female pioneers Rosa Motta, Katherine Switzer, Joan Benoit and Jacqueline Hansen.
