There are few things more exciting as a baseball fan than watching one of your team’s top prospects climb the minor league system and finally make it to the majors.
One up-and-coming prospect sparked some controversy during his last game and is making himself a must-watch player heading into next year’s college season.
2025 Vanderbilt commit Seth Hernandez recently hit 100 mph on the second pitch of his first baseball game.

Hernandez also hit 99 mph with his first pitch and is trending toward one of MLB’s best pipelines ahead of joining Vandy for the 2025 season.
He is 6’4″ and 190 pounds and was selected as the 2024 baseball player of the year by the Los Angeles Times.
The 100 mph mark was what many scouts expected from him, as Hernandez has sat in the 94-97 mph range in the past, but seems to be getting stronger and stronger.
Hernandez also plays third base, but his ceiling is much higher as a pitcher, and that ceiling will only rise after this start.
The mechanics look strong, which is always important for young pitchers because the constant worry is that they will develop arm problems and need Tommy John surgery before their careers begin.
If he continues to play like this, Hernandez could find himself skipping Vanderbilt altogether and moving up MLB Draft boards instead.
