The 2024 Cross Country season is here!
You’re in the thick of the season now. Everyone’s in shape, the difference is racing.
Let me explain.
Those who can make one right move after another and have something at the end of the race, those athletes
will be successful.
Most of the country has had state meetings (California is the latest, on November 30).
runners prepare for the NIKE NXN and 45th FootLocker Presented by HOKA Cross Country Championships.
We take some ideas from the great Australian trainer Pat Clohessy, who trained Rob De Castella and Steve Moneghetti.
Cross Country is the real key to developing as a distance runner.
Most high schoolers competing at NXN and FootLocker still have six weeks of training and racing ahead of them.
Sunday is a long day.
It was my favorite day to train every week (well, other than the long winter Tuesday nights, doing repeated miles with Paul Gore on the Los Gatos track every week, January-March), during my college and outdoor running years.
It’s incredibly late in the season.
Are you fit?
You will keep it moderate and you have a few weeks before the big things.

Saturday 10, Day 7, Sunday, November 24, 2024
good warm up
80-90 minutes of great running, on trails or country roads. The point is to let go, enjoy the sun coming through the redwoods of the Santa Cruz Mountains, or breathe in the subzero cold as you run in Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Those minutes, seconds, hours are never leave me
cool well
Check your shoes and make sure your training shoes
ready for another 8-9 weeks of training (most shoes make up 12 weeks of training)
If not, go to a local running store and find a pair or two of good training shoes.
We will talk about that soon.
