Welcome back to the end of Monday, where we still have the same number of us opens as Scottie Scheffler – But we are losing ground anywhere else. For the news:
10 Views and Open Sounds of the Championship
I am in a direct flight home from Dublin to Seattle, which takes a shocking northern route, so I am currently sailing for some interesting, uninhabited North Canada extensions in Santa Claus’s observation. (Nunavut, I think? Is it that I see the window?!) But my mind is stuck in northern Ireland. It was a joy to spend the week at Royal Portrush, to be open, to witness a small part of history, to dive into the peak of such a special summer place. This weekend I wrote a little about Scottish And a little about Strict – Now, for this Monday, I’m here to empty my notebook with some views, sounds, joys, catch and take before we put this big season for men in bed.
1. Great Majordo should be accessible by train.
Cities become smaller as they go north from Dublin to the country antroim; From the airport the easiest road is a bus to the Belfast Grand Central Station and then a train to Coleraine followed by a smaller train to portray. Things get greener as you go. The cow number increases. Your blood pressure falls down. There is something about the rhythm of a train that is good for the soul, and when you can walk from the train straight to the city, that’s even better. There are many good trains in the open road. This is a great thing.
2. Great major should be accessible from the beach.
This feels like a slightly needed request, but after a week traveling from walks, in fact, it will be difficult to get used to anything else. Portrush (in good weather) is a fun, cheerful beach town, filled with bars and restaurants and arcades and ice cream shops. But the really interesting thing is how its “city center” – which includes the port bar, the center of the social scene, which you probably saw in the broadcast – climbs to the ocean, a clumsy peninsula from the wide, flat, welcoming beaches. And if cut directly across one of those beaches, you happen to go to one of the best golf courses in the world. In every open place, the course from the course to the city means something special and different. This walk is better than most.
3. Rory Mcilroy was not in bars.
But his sure name was. Several times I have heard groups of boys Strict Calling outside the bars or on their home walks, like it was their favorite football club. I wrote on Sunday that Mcilroy clearly means more to Northern Ireland than any other golf player for their respective crowd at home – this felt like strong support.
(Sidenote: Ion Rahm actually it Was In the grass…)
4. The best I want Portrush Royal.
From what I can say, almost everyone loves Royal Portrarian. It’s challenging. It’s stage. There is a ton of variety. And plays “fair”. (Pros are understood to take care of the last more than viewers.) Golf fans hoping for the massacre were disappointed by the benign weather of the weekend, which led to low -end results. But some different players mentioned that she was immediately thrown into their first three open places. (Their consensus: St. Andrews, Portrad and a Wild Card.) There is a conversation to add a stop to Portmarnock in Dublin, which would be great-but I hope the opening is back here soon. I would simply ask a little more smell when they act.
5. Rake’s decision caused a stir.
This is the kind of ridiculous story that can only happen in Golf, but it is also interesting for this reason: by turning to the tournament, R&A made a difference in his bunker policy. Instead of each group that had a certain rakier, as it was a tradition, this year they decided to leave the lid on the caddy. I understand some possible explanations: It would be good to limit the number of people within the ropes, plus is not a bunker that is doing an integral part of Caddy weekly work, anyway? But given an already slow pace and given that these missiles have particularly wide teeth (yes, this is true), the process lasts a little longer than in your typical tournament bunker.
In a high profile incident, Tommy Fleetwood Ended up standing in a trail at no. 5 Thursday. And the growth of caddie is something you don’t really notice until you do; At No. 17 on Sunday, Rory Mcilroy For at least two minutes after finishing at No. 17 like his caddy Harry Diamond perfected his abducted work. Caddies and even the players I talked to said they would like to see Rackers returning, that it was an excellent tradition of this tournament. They are biased, of course.
6. Gotterup is still no. 1.
The new prince of Linksland, Chris GotterupHe won last week’s Scottish Open and ended third in Portrush. Everything is on the table now – the Tour Championship? Ryder cup?! – But on Sunday evening he confirmed something important: he doesn’t consider Scottie Scheffler a Golf player in New Jersey. Scheffler was born in Jersey and spent the first six years of his life there, but his family has called Dallas home since then; Gotterup said he makes it Dallas, through and through. As a result Gotterup is the clear Top dog in New Jersey Golf. This should make it a special favorite fan if you take it to Bethpage in two months.
7. Victor Hovland was joking about strangers.
Victor Hovland went to see Giant’s Causeway On Saturday evening, a wonderful and strange group of geological rock formations. Hovland is just as curious as they come; He is likely to be the only Tour Pro To go see Shawshank prison many times while in Ohio for the memorial, for example. So it was not surprising that he posted a photo of the strange columns of Causeway’s hexagonal basalt in his Instagram history on Saturday, entitled “Aliens”.

I asked him about Sunday’s visit after the round (as he would end up answering some questions, somewhat desperately, for his t63) and he was lit, though he explained that the “Aliens” was a joke.
“There was some good lore for some giants,” he said.
8. Haotong Li lost his game. This was quite a recovery
In the last few years 大全 He has been so embedded with Yips swing off the tee that he has considered to give up the game. To make a long short story: Good good that he didn’t do! Because on Sunday he played along with Scheffler in the last time of Tee in the last round of a major.
Li accepted something interesting on the eve of the battle: he was ready to play for free.
“Nothing to lose,” he said. “Especially from two years ago, swing yips, couldn’t even pull the trigger so far. It is a massive step for me.
Li admitted that he did not expect to catch Scheffler from four shots back – “playing for the second, especially playing with (Scheffler). I will simply try to play my best there and hope to do something happen.
9. I had two special guests in this open week.
I want to write more about it, so I won’t go too deep, but I just know how delightful my mother and her sister planned an Irish adventure that focused on a pair of Friday tickets to portrait. The main point of my week. More to come.
10. Always is always a discount, leaving a big championship.
I write this every major but I can’t BELIEVE These guys end an event like this and then just go to do it next week again. Given, very high level is not playing 3m open but the likes of gotterup, Mav McNealy AND Sam Burns Title a very deep field following valuable points. No I – I’m heading home.
Ryder Cup Watch
Things just started to get very true.
The USA team faces a host of new questions after Sunday’s results in Portrush. it’s Harris English A blockage after his T2? Is Gotterup a serious contender after the third ended? Is there a legitimate concern around Collin Morikawa? Done Ben griffin The roof early? Can Jj spaun Slide out of the first six and if so, what are his chances? Does Captain Keegan Bradley need a higher conclusion to choose himself? At the moment it feels like there are five locks – Scheffler, Schauffle, Dechambeau, Henley, Thomas – and then a bunch of whole boys who will seek to prove that it is worth coming to the Play off.
Europe Europe did not experience the same level of shock, but its essence remains strong. An interesting point plot was both Hojgaard twins, Rasmus (No. 7) and Nikolai (No. 25) In and around the quarrel for most of the week, though they faded slightly in T14 and T16. Harry Hall (No. 24) is another promising professional who is further in the ranking than he feels as if he were. Matt Fitzpatrick Made the biggest movement for everyone, though – it is up to number 13 and breaking better every day.
