The FIFA World Cup final of 1966, held at the Wembley Stadium, is recorded in history as one of the most memorable football games they have ever played. England defeated 4-2 in West Germany after the additional time, achieving his first and only triumph of the World Cup.

1. The T -shirt colors were decided by a coin launch
With England and Germany, traditionally playing with white t -shirts, a coin launch decided which nation was going to bring their change kit during the day. England lost its launch and, therefore, took to the pitch on its mythical red kit.
2. Divide loyalties into the banks’ home
The goalkeeper of England, Gordon Banks, had met his West German wife, Ursula, while doing national service in 1955. Despite having divided loyalty, he pledged to support her husband and teammates on party day, saying: “I will be torn, but I will take root -in England.”
3. The England players received two medals
The team of England, of course, received the medals of their winners after winning the final, but there was another medal granted to the eleven heroes of the day. Cissie Charlton, mother of the stars Bobby and Jack, brought the “miraculous medals” to the final and handed them to the players. The medals were a gift from a group of nuns at a school in Durham.
4. Franz Beckenbauer almost lost the final
The German, 20, was a growing star of the game, but almost lost the final. He had been reserved for his group’s match against Argentina before receiving his second precaution for the tournament against the USSR in the semifinal. This should have governed “Der Kaiser” outside the final, but FIFA decided to ignore the second reserve, claiming that the yellow card was a case of wrong identity.
5. Last final emission of the black and white World Cup
When Mexico hosted the next 1970 World Cup, technology had advanced enough to show the full colored tournament. The 1966 final was, therefore, the last one that was broadcast live in black and white, but since then it has been colorful for a new audience to enjoy.
6. Juration was not allowed
Modern footballers could be known for their fault -mouth triads aimed at the party’s officers, but in 1966 this behavior would not be tolerated by the Swiss referee Gottfried Dienst. Dienst was multilingual and said before the starting shot he knew all the acquaintances English and German.
7. Not everyone listened to the immortal comments line
The final is famous for the immortal words of the BBC commentator, Kenneth Wolstenholme: “Some people are on the pitch, they think it’s over, now it’s!” However, ITV also showed the party, so viewers looking in this channel would not have heard their famous line.
8. The party inspired a postage stamp
Following the victory of England, Royal Mail issued a commemorative stamp with Wembley Stadium and England team. This small piece of memoirs is now a precious collectible among football fans and philatelists.
9. Geoff Hurst wore special boots
Hurst said he had slightly heavier boots than usual, giving it more stability to shoot in wet conditions. Some football historians believe that this contributed to the accuracy of their legendary hat-trick.
10. The national hymns were sung for the second time the tournament
England sang the national anthem in his 1966 World Cup opening party against Uruguay, but would not sing to God again to save the queen until the final. The FA made the decision not to allow teams to sing their national anthems throughout the tournament, as the North Korea anthem was not officially recognized by the Foreign Affairs Office.
