New Year. young you The new…PGA Tour?
We will see about that — plus nine other things, one sentence each and in no particular order — as we take stock of professional golf heading into 2026.
1. Is the blade trickster really dead?
A few months after 2025 star Ben Griffin caught our attention with the paucity of blade putters among the PGA Tour’s putting elite (all of the top 10 on the OWGR used hammers at a recent check), our antennae are up for signs of life ahead.
2. Will LIV get OWGR points?
The world ranking points would elevate LIV to a new level of acceptance from the golf establishment; given the departure of Brooks Koepka, the league’s format changes and the lingering questions about its future, this would be an important win.
3. What will Bryson DeChambeau do next?
The biggest winner of Brooks Koepka’s departure from LIV it may have been DeChambeauwhose lever was thrown from the sky to the intergalactic; as the prince of YouTube Golf, he could seek a mega-contract or take his future elsewhere.
4. How soon will the new PGA Tour schedule come?
That may be the biggest question of all, as the Tour is still the center of the pro golf universe; when you want Brian Rolapp, Tiger Woods and the powers that be at Ponte Vedra release a schedule that (hopefully) clarifies and simplifies what it means to be a player, PGA Tour event AND fan?
5. Where will the LPGA Tour find its star power?
After 2024 it was Year of Nelly and 2025 had a late turnaround from Everyone’s year of the type Year of Jeenothe LPGA’s new leadership has doubled its output; Will one of these two recent No. 1s take center stage, or will the LPGA’s next star come from somewhere else?
6. Are we about to get another Grand-Slam winner?
We’re talking about Scottie Scheffler, who is just one Shinnecock US Open win away from all four – although a Jordan Spieth PGA would be something special (as would a Phil Mickelson US Open, not to mention a double season from the likes of Xander Schauffele, Jon Rahm, Collin Morikawa, Brooksson John Koepka or Dustin who each own two).
7. What will Rory McIlroy’s next act be?
After a year in which he completed a career Grand Slam, won at iconic courses like Pebble Beach and TPC Sawgrass, led his team to an outside Ryder Cup victory, won his home Irish Open, went to India and Australia and launched an investment fund, a production company and a golf league, what McIlroy has in store for 2026 – and what the history of his game will tell us.
8. When – and how often – will we see Tiger Woods?
Will you now 50-year-old Woods appear as administrator, tournament host, TGLer, Masters competitor, Champions Tour member, Father of Golf – or all of the above?
9. What is happening with the DP World Tour?
Everyone loves golf’s self-described “global tour,” which features some of golf’s great personalities, some of golf’s great venues, and some of golf’s storied tournaments — but it’s still unclear where the DPWT fits in alongside the PGA Tour and LIV, which compete for talent, attention, money and more.
